vickila Posted September 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2013 With an accessible tour with RC we went to a lovely hotel that had a large casino and grounds. Very accessible. It was only about 2 miles away so may be available by taxi. Did not feel it was close enough to venture there on scooter. A few years ago we went on a tour where the bus pulled up close to the train and within a few steps you were on the train....3 moderate steps up. Sat in AC train through tour and then back to bus. No distance walking, but w/c or scooter not allowed on train.

When we first were told I could not bring my Wheelchair I get really nervous and panicky but, the bus driver we had said trust me and we did. When we got to the train he told us to wait until everyone got off then backed the bus up to an easy entrance point for the train and got to big burly men to help me onto the train. I can walk a bit but, they made sure I didn't have to. When we got back off the train they moved the bus for me again another pair of big guys helped me back on the bus(they would not let my husband help at all)when we got off the bus they had my chair waiting for me and helped off again. We really enjoyed the train ride and between the bus tour and the train we got a great island tour. The people were awesome to me. I sat in the nice AC inside and my husband could go up and down as he pleased. They had some entertainment in the train as well. We loved it and would do it again. Rhonda Rhonda, do you remember the name of the tour you took? It sounds like a perfect tour for us. I will research it if you can tell me the name of it. Thanks in advance for your help. Rare Essiesmom Posted September 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2013 I think the Sugar Train tours can only be booked through the ship. But Google St. Kitts Sugar train. the same people operate that train that operate the White Pass & Yukon in Skagway during the summer. EM

The number for it is KT-15 Caribbean Scenic Railway Tour. We really enjoyed it but, we love trains. Just a warning the train did stall out 2 or 3 times which didn't last long each time but, we didn't mind we were on vacation. Lot's of people were bothered by this it didn't bother us. You should give it a try any way. We had a great time. Rhonda

Lot's of people were bothered by this it didn't bother us. Also be warned that the last car or two derailed about half way through our ride. I would not have wanted to be back there when it happened. Checking the boards disclosed that this derailment is actually a common occurrance.
NorthernLite Posted September 19, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2013 The hotel you can get a day pass to is the Marriott Resort. Pretty much accessible right to the beach. No pool lifts that I saw but we were running late on an island tour from the ship.
Putterdude Posted September 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Port Zante where the ship will dock is an entirely accessible shopping area and the town of Basseterre is fairly accessible. We did a tour a few years ago with Thenford Grey who gave us a wonderful to a was very sensitive to DW's needs in a wheelchair....in fact unbeknownst to me while I was trooping around in the Brimstone Fortress he was giving her a private tour in his van. I am not sure if his van can handle a scooter, you will need to check with him and you will need to be able to handle a couple of stairs into his van. http://**********************/
