VUCruiser Posted September 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Just booked the Westerdam for December and while we have paid for packages in the past to secure a table for 2, this time we have just requested it for the Main seating. Anyone have a sense of the odds on this coming through? We like the main dining option with the consistent wait staff so did not do the open seating option and if it doesn't come through we won't be upset. Certainly speaking to the Maître d on embarkation day is possible, too. Thanks!
sail7seas Posted September 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2013 HAL has a fair number of two tops and your chances are pretty good. When you check in and get your key card you will see your table number on the key card. Go to MDR and look at the chart which will tell you the size of your table. If it is not what you want, by all means speak with Dining Room Manager or jhis assistant. Location and time he will be available is in the daily program you will find on the counter in your cabin. Good luck.
Skipper's Mom Posted September 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We always request a table for 2, Main seating. We have never been disappointed. Check when you get onboard to see what you have been assigned. The M'D will do his best to accommodate your wishes. :)
RuthC Posted September 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2013 If you find you've been assigned to a 4-top, you may still be the only two at the table. That happens.
Yodalicious Posted September 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We really prefer a table for 2. We have done open seating in the past and have ALWAYS requested a table for 2. Withoout fail, when we get to the dining room, they ALWAYS ask if we would like onshare a table........ NO...... We asked for a table for two! This time we did Main dining for 2. Hopefully, we get it :):)
garydm Posted September 15, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We have never had a problem getting a table for 2 when we have requested it. You might also consider looking at the dining room table map and request a specific table. We have done that a number of times to get a table away from the wait station and by a window. It was honored each time and we got the exact table. Have had the same table for 4 twice on the Oosterdam in fact. Gary
djhsolara Posted September 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Each time that we've requested a table for two (and that is each time that we're sailing without others) we've received it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - now Free
startwin Posted September 15, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We've always gotten our 2-top. On our last cruise we were waitlisted for main dining, 2-top which never changed, and then got an upsell to a Neptune suite. When we checked in, we discovered we had our 2-top, main dining:D
Rare Alphen Posted September 15, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We also always opt for a table for two in the MDR, so far our result was 3 out of 4 on a table for 2 on the early seating, one of which was with 2 persons on a 4 person table. Although on our last cruise on Rotterdam we did get our requested table for 2 on the early seating, it was on the extreme far side of the MDR, way back in an isolated corner. When looking at the dining room plan circulating around the boards, it was not on there, it looked that they squeeze in an extra 2 person table on either far side of the MDR. If you like a really quite dinner you are fine, but we sort of felt left out. It was sort of ok for the short 7 days cruise, but for our upcoming cruise on the same ship, we requested again a table for two, but one more in the middle of the dining room and hope we will be more fortunate. Krazy Kruizers Posted September 15, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2013 There are quite a few tables for 2 in the fixed dining option on the Westerdam. As mentioned, when you check in at the pier, just look at the table number listed on your ID card and once on the ship -- just go to the entrance to the dining room and check out the location of your table. Sometimes there is chart of the tables in the Explorer's Lounge where the Dining Room Manger usually will be located to handle problems. Times for him to be there will be listed in your daily On Location program.
tangerinebunny Posted September 15, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2013 We requested a table for two last December on the Westerdam. For the first two nights it was set up for four when we entered, but no one else came. Other four tops around us seemed to work the same way. OP, when are you sailing? We're on the December 7 cruise again this year.
Sea Belle Posted September 15, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Where does one find a table chart on the boards for the Eurodam? I did not know there were charts so you can request a particular table for two. Thanks!

I did not know there were charts so you can request a particular table for two. Thanks! If you go to IRL Joanie's stickey at the top of the HAL Board, along with the cabins, ship descriptions, etc. there are also the layouts of the various dining rooms on the different ships. kewpie Posted September 24, 2013 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2013 I have used an email on Carnival and RCCL when requesting a table for two. I believe it went right to the dining room. Does HAL have something like that?
Typhoon1 Posted September 24, 2013 #20 Share Posted September 24, 2013 Shoudn't be a problem. Get to know one of the Dining room managers, he will make sure you have a two top nightly.
