Thanks for sharing all of the great information while you are on the Summit. We are jealous that you have a verandah. When we go on the October 5 Summit cruise, we will have an inside cabin. This is the first time we have had an inside cabin for years! We are hoping that we won't be disappointed. Judy & Bill

FERRY RIDE BACK

The previous post was extremely difficult to write.

Thank you to the men, women, and children of all of our Troops who have valiantly fought battles and made extreme sacrifices so life in America can go on.

And so we bid farewell as we journeyed away on the ferry to our home for our last night before boarding the Summit.

We enjoyed several appetizers as our evening meal at the Hyatt and turned in for a nice night of sleep and peaceful rest!

Next posts I hope to be doing from the Summit!

Thanks for reading. I hope you all understand my heart and thoughts of the previous post. The visit to the 9/11 Memorial and vicinity will be one I will never forget.

On to more fun things for two weeks aboard Celebrity Summit!

Your comments were totally understandable. I agree with everything that you said. We have friends from Wales who visited the 911 Memorial recently, and they were very moved by it. I would like to visit the Memorial some day, but I am sure I will be very emotional if/when I do it. Tears come to my eyes now, just thinking about it! May God continue to bless our country. Judy

Thank you so much. We will also be on the oct 5 cruise, so I'm anxious to read and see how the fall colors are turning out. It will be our first time staying inside, and I must admit I never thought I would agree to be without my sacred balcony. I've read all the tips so am prepared, but seeing what the rest of the has to offer has been a huge help. We've sailed on both the Soltice and the Silhouette and your photos show some of the same features. I do think that we will also have the dreaded clingy curtain though. Oh well, that's a small price to pay for bein able to cruise again. I have been sharing your photos with DH and as another CC posted, not sure if they make it easier or more harder to wait another 10 days. Fantastic job - please keep it up if you have time and energy.

DAY TWO - continued afternoon

This has been a very relaxing day to start the cruise off. We have not been up to the pool deck as it has been rainy for most of the day. It is surprisingly warm. I guess I expected a bit cooler with the rain. The rain has ceased, however, and there is some sunshine breaking through the clouds.

I see some requests for food porn. We really have taken just a couple pictures at Qsine last evening and nothing of breakfast (an omelette while tasty does not inspire much in picture form) or lunch. However, there will be food pictures to come even though my daughter-in-law requested more scenic and less food. We pretty much did a “Foodie Tour” through the southern Caribbean in January 2012 and I think that was the reason for her request. LOL

The Elegant Tea was this afternoon as an Elite Member event. We did see Ellen S. but missed saying Howdy. There was pleasant conversation at our table and high recommendations of the scenery of Quebec City and PEI. One couple was from Ottawa and was pretty certain that the height of color may be coming soon at Quebec City, maybe even the time we arrive on this cruise. We will know in several days.

I did get a picture of the menu for this evening for Blu as we will be dining there. The glare on the glass at the MDR prevented me from getting a quality picture of the menu there. However, after dinner I asked and received the opportunity for a MDR menu picture.

We are enjoying some time at the cabin while waiting for the time to arrive to use our drink vouchers and then hopefully enjoy a cigar.

I hope to find wifi in Boston tomorrow that will enable me to do some other picture postings to save on $ on the Summit. We will include the food porn pics from this evening. The wifi has been quite usable from our stateroom. It is not high speed, but I knew that from previous experience. It is nice to NOT have to search out the “hotspots” on the ship.

Setting up your internet account is quite simple. You do need to go to the iLounge on Deck 6. IF you have coupons, bring those along when you START UP your account. Once your account is created, you can use your wifi device with your logon information throughout the ship. They provide a rather detailed sheet of directions to follow. I have found it to be somewhat in error. When I have followed the directions they have provided I end up doing two login screens. The solution that I have found is to start up Safari and type in a URL which activates only one login screen from which I can open up a new tab by following the link on the page indicating that I have successfully logged on.

Hope that may be helpful. But so far the connections have been steady. I hope I did not “jinx” it by saying so!

It is an Aqua Class cabin and YES there is NO clingy curtain!:D

We've been cruising with Celebrity now for 8 years and have yet in 15 cruises to have shower curtains. Not only that but compared to some other cruise lines you can actually have some room in a Celebrity shower.

Sorry for dropping in on your cruise but as we will be taking this next year I wanted to share in your experiences. Our very first cruise on Celebrity was on the Summit for a 14 day repo to Alaska. After that X got smart and broke it down to 2 separate cruises. We were fortunate enough to leave Vancouver go to Alaska and then down to LA.

In any event we as well as many others are enjoying the trip "Daydreamin" is sharing with us. THANKS.

Charles

Love those moon photos! They're gorgeous.

Have a great day in Boston. It's one of our favorite cities.

Do you have any information of the Cruise Critic Connections Party? Like when and where?

Also, please let us know when the big brunch is held. We missed it on our last cruise, because they hid it in the restaurant times section rather than advertising it.

I just saw on another thread that it was held on the last sea day, Friday, before we disembark the next day.

A heads up for those of you on the Summit right now... I was on the 9/7 - 9/21 cruise and several people from our roll call have reported being sick during the last week, some the last day(s), of our cruise. Severe intestinal symptoms. None of us saw any increase in sanitizing or a change in food service. Just passing this along so all of YOU can be extra diligent.

Thanks for going the EXTRA MILE. This is especially appreciated by us on the Oct 5 sailing. A couple of questions (you may have answered already & I just missed it): Are they serving escargot? Any bar/lounge restrictions for "elite" drink coupons? Who is CC host/hostress?

This is correct, as I reported to our Roll Call upon our return, my DH was sick days 10, 11 and 12. He got sick the morning of our second day in Quebec City.

Then others started posting that they or some one they knew were sick.

I was shocked that Celebrity was not taking a more proactive approach in cleaning and sanitizing once people were starting to get sick. The buffet now is practically all self server, there are no more trays and it's just a perfect place for people to pick up germs and get sick.

Thanks, Havana, for the fabulous pics! Wishing you a wonderful day in my hometown, Boston. If you have a chance, I highly recommend lunch at Legal Harborside on Seaport Blvd. Great food and views. We'll be on the Summit in December enjoying Caribbean warmth.

I can also confirm the the stomach virus going around. We made friends with a couple from the Bermuda leg of this cruise, and the wife came down with this stomach illness. The onboard Doc said she probably got it from the food on board. We had a wonderful time on this B2B, but had one pretty serious issue. After 24 cruises with Celebrity, we had a bad table in the MDR. Meaning one intolerable couple at the table. We had a table for six, and after the first night, one couple never came back, and we could only take it three times before we stopped going to the MDR. We asked to be switched to select dining, and we were stunned when we were told NO!!!. I couldn't believe my ears. We have only asked for a table change maybe once or twice before and Celebrity was happy to oblige. So, our dining experience was impacted in a very negative way. Also, the toliet stopped up twice and the refrigerator did not work. Both minor issues. The Summit is showing her age, but overall, in pretty good shape.

Ours did also - twice. One of the ladies at our table had to call service for her toilet.

Instead of adding more cabins and specialty restaurants they should have spent the money on upgrading and fixing the cabins and amenities the ship already had.

So sorry you had a problem in the MDR. We had a great table for 9.
