We will be staying in Miami and would really like to stay on southbeach, but due to it being around the holidays can not afford it. The Holiday Inn Port of Miami is within our burget, but how far is south beach from there? What is the easiest way to get there?

The HIPOM is usually around the same price as South Beach hotels. Did you check hotwire and Last Minute Travel?

The HIPOM is less than five miles from South Beach but I'd still try and get a hotel in South Beach. It is just much more festive.

Try the South Seas, The Colony, Albion, Avalon, Courtyard Marriott South Beach (not Miami Beach) to name a few but hotwire will get you the best deal.

The cost of a taxi to South Beach from the Holiday Inn will range from around $18.00 to $25.00. It ranges because it depends on traffic. That is for a taxi and before tip.

Did you also check out the Hampton Inn in Miami. It's about 5 minutes further away from the port (no big deal) but also includes a nice breakfast and also is nicer.

We found great reviews and moderate pricing at Hotel La FLora on 12th and Collins in South Beach for our Feb stay. Check that one out too.

But... yes, there are nicer hotels in downtown Miami than the Holiday Inn. (And probably for close to the same price) But..for just one day, it would be okay and close to restaurants and stores for last min. items.

But....as Blue Herons said, if you can get to Sobe, you will see and feel the Miami that is shown on tv and in movies. Completely different than the city of Miami.;) Take a cab to at least spend some time strolling the streets and people watching.
