Purvis1231 Posted November 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) We are thinking of and praying for all of the crew and families that have been endangered by Typhoon Haiyan. We met so many great crew members from the Philippines on the ships who were working to support their families. I know this difficult time to be away from home. God bless you. Purvis1231 Posted November 9, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) I hope the cruise lines will find away to allow some of the crew to go home to check on their families. Edited November 9, 2013 by Purvis1231 type
northernphoenix Posted November 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2013 My niece is from the Philippines, and we are praying that all is well with her family. communication is a problem at the best of times, it may take some time before any confirmation of their safety is received. We most often tip the Indonesian room stewards and Indonesian dining stewards...not often the Filipinos except for, perhaps, the wine steward. I think all they get is the pool from the service charge and the 15% bar tips.

The lounge stewards don't participate in the pool funded by the Hotel Service charge. They draw from the 15% service charge on bar drinks, and whatever else passengers give them. solocanadian Posted November 10, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I always tip my favourite bar tenders at the end of the cruise as I spend a lot of time in the Crow's Nest and Ocean Bar. The visual devastation is just horrible on the TV. Now there is a shortage of food and water.
taxmantoo Posted November 10, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Hopefully, HAL will make every possible effort to aid those whose families were affected by this tragedy. It is equally important not to forget those HAL employees currently home on leave waiting their next assignment.
woodworker&knitter Posted November 10, 2013 #15 Share Posted November 10, 2013 I am FB friends with the wife of a HAL security officer. Her husband is at sea. . She gave birth last week and had to check into a hotel with her new born son on Thursday when they were discharged. She got home Sunday (to-day) and was very thankful for the electricity and all the prayers.
kangforpres Posted November 10, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Hi all- We just got off the Nieuw Amsterdam and although they all had their brave faces on and were working hard, you could tell the disaster was on the minds of staff. In addition to thoughts and prayers, cash can be donated to the Red Cross relief efforts. Here's the link.
