firstcruiseever Posted November 25, 2013 Author #26 Share Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) WARNING: Food porn follows! Those sensitive to seeing food pictures should skip to the next post... Or get off cruise critic! So we decided to go to the Main Dining Room for dinner that night. We had anytime dining in the Wind Star. The first night we got put with a waiter that was okay... not great, just okay. We only had him the first night. He wasn't terrible though either. They sat us next to a couple of women from Ontario Canada that spoke French mostly and some English. It was fun to chat with them throughout dinner. We talked about how the food tasted and where they were from and past cruises. One of them was a first time cruiser and she was super excited to be there. SOOOO.... no more delay here is the menu from the first night. I got kind of lazy taking pics of the menu later on... Sorry. We had the kids with us for 3 out of the 5 dinners in the MDR. They never ate of of the kids menu. We like to expose them to different foods and flavors. They tried everything that we ordered and everything that they ordered. We did let them pick, but just gave them choices off of the main menu. So tonight I ordered the escargot. MMMMMMM..... YUMMY. They were tender and sweet and delicious. Just as good as the steakhouse on the Glory. I was worried they would be chewy, but they were just amazing. DH ordered the duck over glass noodles which was also very good. The kids LOVED the duck and tried to steal all of DH's duck. My DD loved the escargot, but DS did not like the texture. They got a fruit cocktail to share, but didn't really eat it. One noteworthy fact: On all the fruit plates and fruit cocktail it was mostly melons. My family doesn't care for melons that much. We love the pineapple, strawberries, berries and such. So if you don't like melon you may be disappointed! Edited November 25, 2013 by firstcruiseever

frednsb Posted November 25, 2013 #28 Share Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) So I promised to post the Fun times and here they are! This is for the first day. We had a nice basket of goodies in the bathroom. There was two kinds of toothpaste which came in handy since we forgot ours!! There was a bit of Bonine and some shampoo and conditioner. We left our stuff there and decided to go up on deck. There was a shuttle launch to take place at 1:30 pm. It was pretty neat! Couldn't see a TON, but you saw the huge cloud from the fuel burning and after the shuttle was out of sight, the sonic boom hit the ship and you could feel it in your feet! I a sure you saw rocket lauched, but the shuttle program has been dead for almost 2 years now. Edited November 25, 2013 by frednsb

It was to launch a new satellite. Not real good with the NASA terminology. Just know something went boom and satellite went UP!
firstcruiseever Posted November 26, 2013 Author #30 Share Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Oh NOM NOM NOM’s Up next is the main course on the first night dinner. Love that my camera separates dates so all I have to do is look up the right day and BAM full menu! So we stuck with something we *thought* we knew the kids would like. We ordered them a cheeseburger with bacon and French fries. Surprisingly they didn’t really eat too much of that. They DID however eat the bacon off the burger! DH got the Pork Steak and said it was pretty good. He liked it. The peas on his plate were crunchy and he did not like them or the other side. I had the Tilapia. It was MUSHY and bland. The table next to us got the same thing as me, so I asked their opinion. The man next to us (opposite the Canadian women) said he liked it okay. His wife said “well it was very bland and mushy.” So I guess it wasn’t just me and my husband that thought that. Both kids got lime sherbet and DH got the black forest cake. He liked his and of course the kids did too. You ever met a kid that didn’t like ice cream?? I ordered the WCMC. One scoop of ice cream not two… I can’t eat that much ice cream! I was SOOOOOO excited. Edited November 26, 2013 by firstcruiseever
firstcruiseever Posted November 26, 2013 Author #31 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I break into the top of the delicious crust and take the first bite. YUM so rich and delicious. When I go for the second bite I get THIS: The ENTIRE bowl of WCMC was an uncooked mass of brownie GOO. TERRIBLE! I didn’t want to make a fuss, and dinner had already taken over an hour by now, so didn’t say anything to our waiters. On the way out, I did mention it to the hostess and she said it would be addressed. Since we obviously didn’t get enough to eat after the billions of pounds of food that we had already eaten, and since they could actually push me through the doors of the dining room, we decided to try the TASTE bar. Very excited. This little bit was given to us: It tasted like eating a wad of allspice. No really, that was all you tasted. And the tomato soup was just tomato paste, water, pepper and salt. Hmm…. Kids wouldn’t even eat a second bite. My husband could not finish it, and this guy is definitely not picky. If he won’t eat it, I know there is something wrong! No comment luv??? I actually liked the food you didn't (tilapia and taste bar) but everyone is entitled to her opinion. DarthGrady Posted November 26, 2013 #35 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Will do with the paragraphs! Actually we LOVE cruising!! There were just things about the Carnival ship that I think would be better on Disney :) So our next cruise in the fall will be Disney and we shall compare from there! We say better to go on one Disney versus two Carnival if we are happier with the Disney experience and from what I hear I think Disney will be more to our taste... But to each their own! Nothing wrong with trying new things, you'll never know what else is out there if you don't. We tried RCI for the first time in 2008, after just making Platinum with CCL. Now my wife and I cruise RCI the majority of the time for their awesome past guest perks, and usually do CCL for the party cruises. That being said, we are cruising on Ecstasy in two weeks so thanks for posting the review!
Jimmy Geegitz Posted November 26, 2013 #36 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I think for the most part the food is exactly the same on every ship. As far as MDR and buffet goes.

windsbud Posted November 26, 2013 #38 Share Posted November 26, 2013 I had the exact opposite with the WCMC on the Splendor this past summer. The first night it was perfect but the following two nights it was over done! Didn't have the heart to try it after that. I was soooo disappointed. From the looks of the pic, the OPs observation is spot on. I love the WCMC as much as the next guy, but it has to be done right. It should be cooked only long enough for the middle of the cake to still be liquid. If cooked too long they're just a chocolate cupcake with no frosting. Too little cook time and they're all batter with a little cake on top (as in the OPs pic). I've experienced all three scenarios over the years. No way. That was the best part of the review. wcmc looked just like that on our last cruise. Ick, probably will never have it on Carnival again. You're kidding or being sarcastic, I hope. Not everyone cares for this "revered" dessert, including DW and myself. OP, keep writing your thoughts and opinions. RuthlessBoss Posted November 27, 2013 #43 Share Posted November 27, 2013 Will be on her in about 12 days. Was on her last July and had a great time. So I'm interested to read what you didn't like. Dec 7, me too! As for the wmcc, op spot on, too soupy.

iloverags2 Posted November 27, 2013 #45 Share Posted November 27, 2013 While I do love the WCMC as much as the next person (having had it often on various ship tours), I will say that photo shows a very poorly done version of it. Ick. And I will also add the WCMC is similar to Disney's Chocolate Souffle at Palo...I don't understand all the hype. Both are excellent, but not too die for. *dodges flames* :p
JohnSpo Posted November 27, 2013 #46 Share Posted November 27, 2013 I was on this Ecstasy sailing. My WCMC did look soupy like the photo. I asked for another one and it was perfect. I think it would be better to tell the waiter and they will be happy to get you another one. This way the kitchen knows immediately. Waiting to tell the Maitre D is too late. Bikkek Posted November 28, 2013 #49 Share Posted November 28, 2013 FYI You can order the WCMC "rare", "medium", or "well-done". They normally have all three ready to go and distribute them randomly to the guests who didn't specify which they wanted. Keith
