thescot123 Posted November 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2013 I also go to the Tropicante which is in Mahahual. It is a cheap $3 taxi to this nice beach town/village. steveuhl@sandalsandskis.com - tropicante website https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahahual Maya Chan is a good resort and in a quiet location. It is capacity controlled so it won't be too crowded.

lilmizz Posted December 6, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted December 6, 2013 How long are you in port for? What kind of things do you like to do? We are only in port for 7 hours. our last port, so we really just want to relax somewhere as our Itinerary is Cozumel , Belize, Roatan then Costa. we already have excursions in the other three planned. So food and beach? We will be there on the 23rd of January/

So food and beach? We will be there on the 23rd of January/ We're on the same Carnival itinerary (different ship) with the short 7 hr stop in CM. We're busier in the other ports and wanted the same thing here - relaxation and rest on our last port day.Originally I considered this port a waste of time as the reportedly nicer, secluded spots are a drive and unless you're off the ship first thing the limited time just doesn't work for that. So finally after much (too much:o) research we reserved with Steve at Tropicante for our February cruise. The reviews in another thread here are all extremely positive in regards to the service, food, and overall experience. And there's no cost to reserve but you would buy drinks and food there of course. His site has a ton of helpful information as well as instructions for getting to his place and a helpful video he made showing many of the other vendors he recommends. So for us it was a no-brainer and we're all looking forward to enjoying some time at Steve's place. You may want to find something different and there are several options. Good luck!:) __________________

mapltc Posted December 16, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 16, 2013 We stopped in Costa Maya just last week. Based on previous Cruise Critic comments from a few years ago - we always go to a wonderful little beach resort called Maya Luna. This little gem is owned by a couple from Holland and is a tropical paradise. They have a small beach and a great little restaurant and bar. They have beach chairs and shade covers to use. Here's a link to their website: http://hotelmayaluna.com/our-hotel-beach-resort/ You only pay $25 and that money goes toward your food/drinks. The food is awesome and drinks are fresh and tasty. One incredible dish - we've had it 3 times - is a dish served in a half of pineapple made with chicken or shrimp, rice, cashews, eggs, pineapple, peppers and other tasty spices. It is so different and tasty. To get there you can either take a taxi or rent a golf cart. By golf cart, t is about a 20 minute ride - you pass through Mahahual and travel south along the ocean. The golf cart attendants will tell you exactly how to get there. I haven't ever taken a taxi as the golf cart ride is fun and a bit adventurous. It is beautiful - you feel like you are in your own private resort. Our friends have gone there too and loved it as well. Would love to be there right now! I am sure you will have fun, where ever you end up.
