rjjjcj Posted December 7, 2013 #26 Share Posted December 7, 2013 If you have the flexibility consider staying at a hotel one night post cruise and flying home the next morning. We are doing this in April on our Allure cruise. The flight on Monday was much cheaper. We are still actually saving money by staying and extending our vacation!! We got air for $190/p so couldn't find any deals to beat it-just checked today and price is doubled-I am sure with all the great suggestions we will find something to pass the time
jmf123 Posted December 7, 2013 #28 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I believe the ship has a service that will take your luggage directly to the airport depending on the airline that you are flying. RCI's Luggage Valet would be great, although I'm not sure if there is a max amount of hours between disembarkation, and getting to your gate. I know they recommend a shore excursion that drops you off at the airport, leaving a few hours prior to your flight. The Luggage Valet costs $20 p.p. and can only be purchased on board. Guests receive a letter in their stateroom explaining the details of the program, or you can go to Guest Relations. The fee is for the issuance of your airline boarding pass and luggage handling. Airline baggage fees are additional, depending on the airline you booked. I would definitely keep your carry on bags with you, including any valuables, medications, and items you wouldn't want to 'lose'- just in case. If you are interested, this is from RCI's website: Luggage Valet is a service offered onboard which enables guests to bypass traditional airport check-ins. Guest who participate will be processed onboard the ship and receive their airline boarding passes, luggage tags as well as baggage claim checks for their checked-in luggage. This service is available in these selected ports: Fort Lauderdale Port Canaveral Miami Seattle Seward and on these selected airlines: Air Tran Alaska Airlines American Delta United US Airways Jet Blue Southwest Airlines Participating airlines vary by port. Consult the Guest Relations Desk onboard for specific port qualifications and additional information. An additional fee will apply.
davidgv Posted December 7, 2013 #29 Share Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) We did a post cruise excursion - we were collected from the ship (Oasis) and taken by coach to Holywood - our hold baggage was kept secure in the coach until we arrived at the airport. At Holywood we were taken to a first floor hall (air conditioned and with a selection of snacks and cold drinks) where we were given tourist information about the area - also there was a secure area to leave hand luggage - we went for a trip on the water taxi and saw Oasis for the last time from water level! After the water taxi we went for lunch - a superb burger at Le Tub - then walked back to the A.C. hall for a cool down - just before our coach was due to leave for the airport we did go out for a last drink by the beach - do make sure that you get the right coach for either FLL or MIA. It was a good value trip and made the most of our last day in Florida. :) Edited December 7, 2013 by davidgv spelling error
John Henry on CC Posted December 7, 2013 #30 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Rent a car and start driving. You'll be halfway back to Dearborn before your flight leaves. You win. Best post on thread.
