maureencruiser Posted December 20, 2013 Author #201 Share Posted December 20, 2013 Feeding time at the Butterfly House. Open those wings, there is that blue. I don't know what this is, but, it is pretty. Open up! When you moved in closer, I think they got scared and closed their wings.

maureencruiser Posted December 20, 2013 Author #203 Share Posted December 20, 2013 That's the biggest butterfly I ever saw. I like them on the poinsettias. If only they would show the blue. This one landed on me. He looks a little chewed up. You feel them landing on you and in your hair. It is lovely. You have to be careful where you walk, I think they like to warm themselves on the floor.

maureencruiser Posted December 20, 2013 Author #206 Share Posted December 20, 2013 Come to Mama. I call this a zebra butterfly. I might be right about that. Finally!! He stayed for me so long, I think he was waiting for the turtles to cross.
maureencruiser Posted December 20, 2013 Author #207 Share Posted December 20, 2013 I would think the turtles would eat the butterflies. I guess that is why I work in a pharmacy and not a butterfly conservatory. This one was watching me. It creeped me out a little bit. "It puts the lotion in the basket." It looked like the guy who runs the galaxy in Men In Black.
maureencruiser Posted December 20, 2013 Author #208 Share Posted December 20, 2013 These two were fighting. Or, maybe they were trying to mate. Good luck, Buddy, I've been trying to get her to spread her wings all day! This one was watching me, too. Creepy!! When you leave, you have to check yourself in the mirror to make sure none are on you.

maureencruiser Posted December 21, 2013 Author #212 Share Posted December 21, 2013 So, Once done, it was just a short walk to the Southernmost marker. Along the way, I passed many Southernmost things. The Southernmost Chicken. TADA!! Well, I can't go any further south, so, I turned around and headed back towards my next destination and the ship. I saw many pretty things. KW residents sure know how to decorate their houses. Pineapples say Welcome! Lock on gate says Go Away.

I don't know what these are, but, they look cool. Check out the belt - what do you think it is for? Note the narrow rear end, reminds me of my own. The trunk. maureencruiser Posted December 21, 2013 Author #215 Share Posted December 21, 2013 While I was posting, it occurred to me, maybe it is a Model-T? I googled it and it kind of looks like one ?? Sort of?? Ah, now I see what the belt was holding, the spare tire. Reminds me of my own. Skinny tires! Pontiac says wider is better. I took a picture of the running board. thought that might contain a clue. Googled it when I got home, found out Steel Horse is just an automotive supply company. Well, no matter what it was, I thought it was cool! And, I almost got run over standing in the street taking pics. It looks like Captain America might drive it. maureencruiser Posted December 21, 2013 Author #216 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Cute. The Key West Lighthouse! I knew I was getting close to my destination. Now, I'm sure the views from the top are fabulous. But, if y'all think I was in any shape to climb up 88 circular steps at this point, y'all is crazy! So, you will have to settle for another picture. Frenchie, this is where I need your help. House of friends of......something? Fendant? Is it wine? House of friends of wine? House of friends with wine? Frenchie, just so you know, in America, defendant means something completely different and it is something you do NOT want to be. :D
maureencruiser Posted December 21, 2013 Author #217 Share Posted December 21, 2013 Finally, my destination! Now, y'all know why I wanted to go to Hemingway's house. Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American author and journalist. His economical and understated style had a strong influence on 20th-century fiction, while his life of adventure and his public image influenced later generations. Hemingway produced most of his work between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s, and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He published seven novels, six short story collections, and two non-fiction works. Three novels, four collections of short stories, and three non-fiction works were published posthumously. Many of his works are considered classics of American literature. Yeah, that's why! Mais oui!! :p No, man, I was there for the cats! Hemingway does have some interesting art, most African, from what I could tell. Ewww, NOT a sport, in my book.
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #218 Share Posted December 22, 2013 It just occurred to me, some of you may not know what a Hemingway cat is - let's go back to Wikipedia. A polydactyl cat is a cat with a congenital physical anomaly called polydactyly (or polydactylism, also known as hyperdactyly), a type of cat body-type genetic mutation that causes the cat to be born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws. Cats with this genetically inherited trait are most commonly found along the East Coast of North America (in the United States and Canada) and in South West England and Wales. Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway was one of the more famous lovers of polydactyl cats, after being first given a six-toed cat by a ship's captain. Upon Hemingway's death in 1961, his former home in Key West, Florida, became a museum and a home for his cats, and it currently houses approximately fifty descendants of his cats (about half of which are polydactyl). Because of his love for these animals, polydactyl cats are sometimes referred to as "Hemingway Cats". Now, back to my visit. My first cat!!! And, he was as excited to see me as I was to see him!!! Check out the mitts on this one. Awww.
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #219 Share Posted December 22, 2013 All right, something is not right here. A bed with a white bedspread and NO black cat lying on top, shedding? I don't get it. Hemingway's bathroom, where he bathed the cats.
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #220 Share Posted December 22, 2013 Hemingway's kitchen, where he cooked the cats. Can't you just picture a cat curled up in each cubbyhole? Even the furniture here has six toes.
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #221 Share Posted December 22, 2013 It was a warm day, I only found a few cats inside, so, I ventured out. Success!! They had these neat, little houses to feed the cats in.
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #222 Share Posted December 22, 2013 These workers were trimming the trees and letting palms and clusters of coconuts fall to the ground. They didn't seem to care that there were people (and cats!) walking around underneath. Baltimore Block. This cat was on this man's lap when I came around the bend. I think he picked up one of the cats. After chasing away the scofflaw, I got to spend some time with this kitty. Was this the same one from inside the house? I'm not sure, but, if it is, how did he manage to summon up the energy to come outside?
maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #223 Share Posted December 22, 2013 This one came and met me at the top of a path and led me down to a sitting area. I think he had an eye infection. :( See how he splayed his foot out for me. We enjoyed a few minutes together, him on the table, me on the chair. maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #224 Share Posted December 22, 2013 Pretty paws. This baby is 5 months old. I think this is his Mom. I'm not sure what kind of cat this is. They had a bookstore/ gift shop near the pool. This guy was sitting right at the door, watching the people come and go. I called him the Security Guard. maureencruiser Posted December 22, 2013 Author #225 Share Posted December 22, 2013 Look up, Sweetie, I want to see your pretty face. Hmmm, does the Butterfly Whisperer hold the same power over cats? She does! The Cat Whisperer!! There was an armoire in the corner. On a whim, I stuck my camera under it. How cute! One of the cats left his prints in the cement. This one was very sweet.
