che5904 Posted December 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2013 Looking at the Tampa web cam. Is that the Dawn they are giving close ups of. The ship webcam also shows them still in port. It's 7pm and the Dawn should have left port at 4pm. Anyone have any news on this?
Krazy Kat Posted December 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2013 I am also wondering how disembarkation and embarkation went today, compared to last two weeks. Thanks

It's 7pm and the Dawn should have left port at 4pm. Anyone have any news on this? Just heard from a friend on the Dawn. Tonight for some reason they are scheduled to sail at 7:45 P.M. They said that there were not any real issues with either disembarkation or embarkation.
legion3 Posted December 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2013 Well if there were no embarcation or getting off issues, as It took us an hour today and we were priority so not sure how long it really took to get everyone off and then on but the stabilizers went out at belieze according to the captain. Made the ride a little more bumpy and rolling, perhaps they are trying to fix that problem.

Don't let the small stuff ruin a great adventure.

At least you won't be late for Roatan.

I agree, once you are on the ship, you are on and can do everything you would normally do on the first night out to sea, with the exception the casino would be closed. Since the next day is a sea day, once you are out on the ocean the next day you really have no idea if you've travelled 50 miles, 10 or in circles LOL. The last NCL cruise we were on we had turned to go back towards land in the middle of the night (medical emerg). I said something about the nice sunrise from our balcony in the morning to DH, who replied, well that's a little weird it should be on the other side of the ship since from our balcony we seen the sunset at night. Our only indication that something was up :D

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - Jim Cool photo, I love the sunset looking down the ship. I do have to ask, what is it that fascinates people about sailing under a bridge. I don't even like driving under a bridge ;). I always see threads "what time does xxx go under xxx bridge, don't want to miss it"

jackparts Posted December 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 9, 2013 I do think that since you are due to leave at 4pm, not 7:45, it is a big deal. Maybe not the loss of time, but on the cruise over Thanksgiving, we left late, and the ship was in hyperdrive, trying to make up the lost time. All the elevators had barf bags on the side. Really dipping and if you were a first time cruiser, definitely would be a major pain in the a$$.
roger001 Posted December 9, 2013 #18 Share Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) I don't think a few extra knots would affect ride much. Sea condition would be that cause. And, the difference between normal cruise speed with a cruise ship and max speed is only 4 or 5 knots. All boats have a "hull speed" at which it just won't go any faster without increasing horsepower to push it by huge amounts. Can't remember it now, but the fuel consumption to increase a ship's speed just those few knots is massive. Airplanes have a similar issue. Each design will only go so fast. There have been a few passenger ships that were designed for speed and could hit a top speed of about 10 knots more than their normal cruise of around 20 kts. However, modern cruise ships are not of that design. The Gem Captain said she can do max between 26 and 27 knots, with a normal cruise of 21 to 22 Edited December 9, 2013 by roger001
newmexicoNita Posted December 9, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 9, 2013 All these problems with the Dawn . I'm wishing I would have picked another ship for our first cruise (jan 5th ) ... This is making me very nervous ! Just my thinking: if the stabilizer went out, like reported, it will be fixed before you sail: if there problems with embarkation and debarkation, it is a minor annoyance, nothing to get nervous about. Heck, when most of us started sailing or a low of us anyway, it always took a couple of hours to get on the ship after arriving at the port and they didn't even start boarding until 1 or 2pm. If I were you, living in Mi. I would be a heck of a lot more concerned about getting out because of winter weather, than about a little bit of inconvenience at the ports. I really don't consider what is being reported as real problems with the ship.

If so why would they be trying to make up "lost time" leaving port? They would have all day to make it up and get to the first port.

The barf bags in the elevators had nothing to do with making up time, the seas were a little rough. Heck on our 1st cruise to Bermuda from NYC we were 80 miles off the coast and had to turn around and head back to meet a CG ship because someone had fallen ill. Our only indication that something was up :D That might very well explain why, on my last cruise, the sun rose AND set in the East, when we were pulling into Aruba! Then again, maybe not. My sister and I are still trying to figure that one out. We got up early and saw the sunrise(early enough to see the sunrise in November is 6:00AM:D). That night, as we were back on the ship in our cabin(the ship hadn't left port yet), we watched a beautiful sunSET off our balcony AND THE SHIP HADN'T MOVED!! The barf bags caused me to ask the room steward if we were at an increased speed. The answer with a smile, we be really jamming man. Also in the gift shop, the lady was discussing it with another cruiser so I also asked her. Yes, we were going faster and it was her that explained it was to make up time.
