KiwiFunCruiser Posted December 14, 2013 #26 Share Posted December 14, 2013 It happens, I have seen more of South Australia since I moved away then when I lived there for several years. Work and life gets in the way sometimes.:D Yes, I think there are still a few places we need to see in the North Island too.
Rare TLCOhio Posted December 15, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted December 15, 2013 Thank's Terry, The North Island has it's wonderful features as well and being "Kiwi", we are so grateful to live here. The highlights of the South for us were:Milford Sound Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook Queenstown Arrowtown Lake Wanaka Hanmer Springs Kaikoura Kaiteirteri Nelson Picton And don't forget the beautiful French town of Akaroa, this one you will sail into. Appreciate these added tips and loves from the South Island of NZ. Very helpful. Yes, looking forward to seeing the French-style town of Akaroa when we are tendered there. We'll see Milford Sound and then by doing the two-day, overnight ship excursion, we will get to do the sampling for Queenstown, Arrowtown and Lake Wanaka. Will share your tips on our roll call. Did not realize until I checked that Lake Wanaka is New Zealand's fourth largest lake and at an altitude of 984 feet. It covers an area of 74 square miles and is estimated to be more than 980 feet deep. Its name is Māori, a variation of Oanaka or meaning 'The place of Anaka', for a local tribal chief. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. Thank's Terry, glad to help. In Wanaka there is a bakery shop in the main street opposite the lake and they sell the best pies in many varieties, I'm not sure if they are still there but someone told me they were. The hostess is a real character.

markarmel Posted December 18, 2013 #32 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Hello. Not sure if you have a option to do this but if you aren't visiting Queenstown during your holiday there may be a chance to get on a overnight excursion that stops at Queenstown and gets you reboarding the ship at Milford Sound. Queenstown is a beautiful place and you must see it if you are able to. Royal Carribean had such a excursion so there is a chance you may be able to do it. It might cost a bit of money but it is worth it.
