496and706 Posted December 17, 2013 #151 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Oh, and for the record my kitchen and dining room table are both solid wood. A white linen table cloth with matching napkins are used for the dining room table when we have company. We have wooden "placemats" on the kitchen table where my husband and I eat when we don't have company. We truly enjoy and appreciate the tablecloths and cloth napkins. I don't think we have ever gone to the Lido for dinner.

InTheWASide Posted December 17, 2013 #154 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Also curious as to which ship this is. From the way folks look, appears this might be lunch and not dinner? It's the ship in question
InTheWASide Posted December 17, 2013 #155 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I also wonder why there are so many empty seats in that dining room? Could very possibly be the open seating venue/floor. Usually it will be the lower floor of one of the dining rooms
InTheWASide Posted December 17, 2013 #156 Share Posted December 17, 2013 That actually looks like a massively large pinball game with miniature people placed inside. Look at the 4 big bumpers in the middle. Where is the big silver ball? Ding, ding, ding!! Those are the service stations but that is kinda funny

trixiee Posted December 17, 2013 #158 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Looks like a pub to me! I would be ok with that for breakfast or lunch, but would really appreciate the tablecloths and china for dinner. Wonder if they are using plastic water and soda glasses yet?:eek:
'The Bear' Posted December 17, 2013 #159 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I would be quite disappointed with no tablecloths --- we eat all meals off tablecloths at home, and I would fully expect the same or better on a cruise ship!!
KirkNC Posted December 17, 2013 #160 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I agree, we enjoy the table clothes for dinner. It adds an elegance to the MDR.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 17, 2013 Author #161 Share Posted December 17, 2013 For the record, the tables are beautiful... I see no issue with it unless someone is really wound THAT TIGHT I guess I am wound THAT TIGHT. It is not appealing to me. And you can be certain that neither of us would want to dress up on formal nights with tables that are not elegant looking. JMO

sail7seas Posted December 17, 2013 #165 Share Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Carnival Glory. With the changes in place Could very possibly be the open seating venue/floor. Usually it will be the lower floor of one of the dining rooms Or the fact there are so many empty seats could be reflecting what guests think of the 'new look'. They may have opted for a burger instead of that stark, cold, unattractive setting. Why bother to dress and go out expecting a 'lovely evening'? Cruise lines will start to realize there is a point when they have gone too far. There are other choices. You can only diminish the product just so much when people stop wanting the product. chrispb Posted December 17, 2013 #166 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I can't see how they can drop tablecloths in the MDR - most of the tabletops are raw plywood type material. Bingo! I was about to ask that question. Most restaurants have chipboard or hardboard table tops because they're durable and will be covered up anyway. I wouldn't think HAL is any different. chrispb Posted December 17, 2013 #167 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Anything goes on CCL. If you've ever been on a Carnival ship take a look at their passengers. How rude! In what way do they differ from you? I'm truly curious:confused:
chrispb Posted December 17, 2013 #168 Share Posted December 17, 2013 The people in the photo look just like passengers I've seen on every other cruise line - no better, no worse. So what's with all snide comments?
sail7seas Posted December 17, 2013 #169 Share Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) I tried enlarging the photo but it gets blurry and I'm trying to figure out what the brown/white squares are at each place setting beside the napkin and cutlery. Does anyone who has sailed Carnival know what those square are? Thanks. Edited December 17, 2013 by sail7seas

InTheWASide Posted December 17, 2013 #174 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Groan... That's terrific ! Lots of hands on the bowl and spoon just ripe for spreading Noro around the table. :) no different than the approach for sides with the new Pinnacle menu which you defended as being the way many other finer steakhouses do it in their establishments with a la carte sides... And before you say there may be other people at the table not part of your party... that's by choice as you can have your own table for your group, and I'm sure they would accommodate if you prefer to keep sides within your group at a given table that has others as well
