fionan Posted December 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2013 the cruise will be spending one day/night from Sydney to Hobart, two sea days/nights from Port Arthur to the Fiords of NZ and one sea day/night from Wellington to Auckland. How bad are the seas likely to be in each of these segments? thanks, Fiona

If you are prone to sea sickness just take something But really don't worry and just enjoy it will be fine:)
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 18, 2013 We have done this several times. No one can tell you how it will be. Could be completely calm. Could be somewhat rough at times. Or you could have some very rough seas. Key is to plan and to bring something with you to prevent sea sickness. I also recommend booking a cabin that is more mid ship if rough seas bother you. Keith
kuldalai Posted December 18, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Both those areas in the lap of the gods . Can be rough can be smooth. Book a cabin mid ships and lower deck, wear travel sickness wrist bands, and take ginger tablets from Health Food shop and you will be OK . fionan Posted December 18, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Thanks everyone! I do get seasick, but love cruising too much to let it put me off.
Gunner22aa Posted December 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 18, 2013 A term used to describe the area between 40 and 50 degrees south latitude which you will be in the heart of. Got its name from the strong winds known to prevail in the area. They don't exist all of the time but they can create rough seas.
rpcv77 Posted January 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2014 Recently back from a cruise that involved crossing the Tasman Sea and Hobart to Melbourne , Sydney legs. We hit an awful storm crossing the Tasman but we were forewarned so took seasick precautions. Enormous swells were crashing into the ship all night. I've never had this experience before and looked upon it as just another adventure in life. The rest of the journey was smooth. That being said, I agree that no one can give you a weather promise ahead of time. Have fun.
