Would love to know what he did to earn that title? I guess you have to witness first hand, Carlos Zarate in action: 1. Personalized Shore Touring lecture meetings (with hand out itinieraries & maps) for his guests the day before port arrival 2. Personal VIP esort disembarking in port and voyage end 3. Portal to Portal wheel chair assitance for mobility impaired guests 4. Last minute reservation changes you could not get done on your own. 5. Personal in cabin visits to chat, make suggestion or learn if anything is needed. I could go on and on

Another plus for me is that he is one of the concierges that care about ALL of his suite guests whether they are in the Haven or in a lowly SF which we usually sail :)

njhorseman Posted March 28, 2014 #240 Share Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) I can do without personal in cabin visits. I think they're intrusive and I don't particularly care for concierges who do them or decide to call to see if you need anything. More than one concierge has awakened me from an afternoon nap with an unneeded phone call. I know where the concierge's desk is and I know the concierge's phone number. If I need something I can call or go in person. Edited March 28, 2014 by njhorseman

We and former cruise mates have not felt Carlos's personal visits were an imposition and consider Carlos to be a close family friend. One time, there were four of us who were ending a Med voyage on the Jade in Rome's port of Civitvechia. We were changing ships and sailing home on Royal Caribbean's Mariner. Carlos knew the Mariner's concierge and made secret arrangements with him to have a limo pick us up and the Jade's pier and transport us to the Mariner's pier where the Royal Caribbean concierge was waiting for us. Then there was the time that Carlos and three of us bought Caftan's together at dockside shops in Alexandria, Egypt as the Four Pharos. Then there was the time a group of his guest/friends threw a surprise 50th birthday party for Carlos. Sicx month later, hHe returned the favor by treating us to lunch at his favorite restaurant in Belize. Edited March 28, 2014 by Uniall
rtn Posted March 28, 2014 #242 Share Posted March 28, 2014 Just got off the Gem and thought Carlos was an asset. We were a group of 8... which 4 of us were in suites but treated our whole group equally (made some allowances for our group). Made many dinner reservations which changed many times..no problem at all. We enjoyed his visits throughout our cruise. Said our final goodbyes in the terminal where we found him helping suite passengers locate luggage. We all had a fantastic time on the Gem. Just as an aside, you probably don't remember, but we were booked on the same Jade cruise (from the first day it was available for purchase and actively participating in the Roll Call) but ended up canceling before the final payment due date due to a combination of concerns about political unrest in Egypt and personal health issues. I remember your plans to take the Royal Caribbean cruise home...something we also considered but in the end we had lots of frequently flier miles and booked airline tickets in both directions instead. Indeed, I did/do remember you. That's one of the reasons I mentioned the magic Carlos worked for my cruisemates and me on that Jade cruise. It was the last itinerary to include two ports in Israel and two ports in Egypt. Edited March 28, 2014 by Uniall

I updated using individual officers and ships info that was posted since the last fleet wide post. If there was an earlier assingment listed but no posting of a replacement, I left it in place and only changed slots where the replacement had been posted. I believe (but not certain) that the "Ruth" listed as Co-Concierge on the Breakaway is Ruth Haggar previously listed on the Getaway. The problem is soem folks post only first names and other both first and last names. The reason I left 1/10 next to ruth Haggar's name on the Getway is to indicate that info was back in January but the other officers list were based on info from March. I don't know for sure but some posts may be what people have heard but isn't necessarily accurate. Edited March 30, 2014 by Uniall

swedish weave Posted March 30, 2014 #249 Share Posted March 30, 2014 Maintaining an accurate up-to-date list is a difficult task due to the varying schedules of the officers. Some rotate on 10 week cycles and others rotate on 4 to 6 month cycles. Also, changes can be made mid-cycle depending on the need for certain positions to be filled. Uniall --- You have a daunting task !!!!

What I have in mind is to edit in posted info into the Fleet Sheet once a month. But, it should ONLY be included if the poster is reporting a known fact not a rumor or a maybe. So, it's important that the posters indicate whether it is something they know is true or just a possiblility.
