macruisefan Posted January 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Haven't been on Freedom Class in a few years. Is the entire Viking Crown now smoke free? I believe there was still a smoking area last time I was on board. Thanks.

oneputt18 Posted January 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2014 The only inside smoking is in the casino. Also smoking is now prohibited on cabin balconies. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Forums mobile app

I don't know for sure, but Royal adopted more restrictive smoking policies on Jan 1, and my impression was that virtually all indoor smoking was prohibited. The only exceptions were the casino and the cigar lounge on deck 5. Edited January 7, 2014 by clarea

However, I thought they elimiated the smoking area up there a while ago. I could be wrong about that one though...I think RCI adopted a more restrictive policy, only allowed smoking in the casino and on balconies a few months ago. From what I am reading in this thread, it is now though!

Smoking was allowed Starboard side in the Freedom VC in December '13. Should now be smoke free under the new rules.
Aquahound Posted January 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 7, 2014 As of January 1, 2014….smoking is NOT allowed on balconies on any ship. I realize that. I was talking about before Jan 1. On Oasis Class, other than it being allowed on balconies, smoking was only permitted internally in the casino. I didn't know if the whole fleet was under the same policy prior to Jan 1. Not on Allure it wasn't. On my Nov 17 cruise, all indoor smoking was banned except for the casino. Smoking was not permitted in Boleros nor the pub. We were handed leaflets of this policy at check-in. Edit--I see you were referring to 2012. Sometime between then and late 2013, there was a change. I wonder if they changed when the policy change was announced. Allowing smoking in the pub and Boleros was one of the reasons that I rarely went into those venues. On a side note, when I was on Freedom back in... 2011(?) the pub was non-smoking and I was in there very frequently. That's good news. We were on Allure in late 2011, and they actually held some trivia events in Boleros amid the smoking. Yes, the trivia in Bolero's was not enjoyable. Even though nobody was smoking in there during the trivia (and the art auctions) it still held the odor of it. wmp.dll Posted January 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 8, 2014 If there was smoking in the Viking Crown on Freedom back in May, I never noticed anyone smoking or the smell of smoke in the lounge ever.
Rare niksmom630 Posted January 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Edit--I see you were referring to 2012. Sometime between then and late 2013, there was a change. We were told on our November 10th Allure sailing that it was the first week of the "new smoking policy" which only allowed indoor smoking in the casino. The bartender in Balero's told us it was a new "trial" policy, so perhaps it was even specific to Allure, and not introduced on Oasis. We were not provided anything at check in on the new "policy", but it was posted in the day one Compass, and again several times throughout the week as I recall.
