Does anyone know the cost of Taxi from Grand Central to Port ? Trying to decide if it's easier to go into Grand Central or Penn Station with 76 yr old Mom. I know she is not going to be able to carry luggage up and down stairs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Figure about $10-12 (more in very heavy traffic) plus tip. The distance from Grand Central to the cruise terminal is about the same as the distance from Penn Station to the cruise terminal, but the traffic might be a little heavier (and hence the taxi fare higher) from Grand Central because you're travelling crosstown (where traffic tends to be heavier) for a longer distance.

In any event, differences in taxi fares shouldn't significant enough to be the deciding factor.

Brighton Line posted this response to you on another thread.

"Penn station sounds like Amtrak where you might get help with your bags if needed.

Grand Central is commuter railroad only, no help with baggage. Some trains arrive on the lower level at Grand Central so you may face going up a few stairs to a ramp or know the trick of walking to the front of the train on the lower level (under the stair/ramp) to where it is ramp only or ramp to an elevator.

As stated by markeb Grand Central you have the crosstown traffic to deal with.

There is price, I'm sure Amtrak costs much more than Metro North and Metro North also runs from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central."

There can be a ton of walking at Grand Central with no assistance. The front of the train is closest to the exit. If you are towards the back of the train, you will have to walk forward to get off the track. At Penn station the tracks run under the station so the middle of the train is the best location for an easy exit. There are stairs, escalators, and elevators from the track up to the main station.

You have to evaluate your mother's capabilities and your ability to manage the luggage and your mother.
