katrina915 Posted January 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2014 I am trying to figure out how excursions are booked on RCI Alaska cruisetours. I cannot book them online for July 2014 (eventhough I can do it for the cruise) and the RCI booklet states that these excursions can only be reserved while on your Cruisetour with your Adventure Specialist. Can anyone shed light on when/how the booking of RCI cruisetour excursions happen and how I can increase my odds of getting the excursions that I want? I am particularly interested in upgrading from the Natural History Tour in Denali which is included in Cruistour to the Tundra Wilderness Tour with RCI. Is it tough to get the TWT and does RCI just charge the price differential? Thanks.
paylady Posted January 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) From what I've read RCL stopped running their own Alaska tours after 2012 so that means the tour portion is a third party vendor. I've heard the vendor is Premier Tours. This may explain why we can't book additional cruise tour excursions through the website. Who knows. I will also be upgrading to the TWT but am not worried that they won't have space. None of the reviews I've read mentioned a problem. You just upgrade at the beginning of your tour. There are enough folks who don't do their homework and don't have a clue that they should upgrade so more room for us on the TWT. :D Edited January 16, 2014 by paylady

When you arrive at your hotel and meet with your adventure specialist/guide, you will be able to book excursions at that time. I had done some prior research on excursions offered at each place we visited so I had an idea of what we might like to try. We booked 2 additional excursions and our tour already offered the Tundra Wilderness tour so I do not know about upgrading that excursion. Enjoy your Alaskan adventure! In other words, you can't book cruise tour excursions until you have met with you Tour Guide on day 1.
volunteer cruiser Posted January 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2014 It is easy to upgrade to Tundra wilderness tour. Your tourguide will meet you first evening and hand out a pamphlet of all extra excursions. I had to give her the number of people in my party that wanted to upgrade to TWT by the next morning. The tour was well worth it. It seemed all fellow vacationers that wanted to upgrade did, didn't seem to be a seat limit.
