Lyncoya Posted January 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2014 I am thinking of booking the repositioning cruise on the Dream. It's a 9 day cruise to Aruba, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. It begins in Orlando on 04/05/14 and ends in New Orleans. VERY nice itinerary. I'm looking at OV rooms and this cruise is less expensive than some of the 7 day cruises that I've been eyeing. Are repositioning cruises normally less expensive?
joybaby Posted January 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2014 All repositioning cruises are inexpensive, since you must get transportation going to one port and then leaving another. it's a nice ship, been on it four times.
Lyncoya Posted January 17, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 17, 2014 OK, thanks for explaining. Awesome to hear about the ship. I'm excited. :)
b-fly-travel Posted January 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2014 Those are really good rates on that ship. I think it's less expensive due to the Jan sale, and also the ship has to transition to a new port and it is in their best interest to sail full, they are deferring their transportation costs to you. Final payment is due in 3 days, so book soon.

About $300 cheaper (for two people).
Sammycupcaker Posted January 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2014 I really wanted to take this cruise. I wanted to go to Aruba. Sadly, my 9y/o dd potentially has a school competition to attend. We are booked 2 weeks later. Have a great time!

tree.critter Posted January 17, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 17, 2014 This will be a fun cruise, there's a lot of experienced cruisers booked on it, we have a very active roll call too. Come check it out, the spa rooms are pretty much sold out as are all the premium cabins. I'll be dropped off in Port Canaveral and flight back to JAX on Southwest was reasonable at 129. I'll come over and check it out!! I was thinking of either booking an OV room or a cove balcony. I don't need anything "premium". and YES, the prices for flights are VERY reasonable. I was shocked. Sadly, the first leg of Legend's repo cruise is NOT inexpensive at all. We did get one nice price drop at the beginning, but since then the price has gone up and up. Wonder what's with that. I'm excited. :) Had we not booked the Sunshine (changed to the Dream after Booking) with other family members, we would have been all over this cruise. You did good! :D

fishtaco Posted January 17, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Repositioning cruises can also be a training ground for new staff and retraining of regular staff. Repositioning cruises change things around during the cruise to suit the new home port and home port clientele and the reason they are cheaper, so you sort of have no grounds for complaint if something you are used to on that particular ship is no longer available. My last repositioning cruise was from Australia to Asia where many things were being changed at sea to accommodate the new seasons Chinese passengers. The biggest difference was many staff were flown in from China and did not speak very good English or understand the needs of some non Chinese passengers and all the casino games changed to include lucky Chinese symbols. Most bar staff could not mix a cocktail and if you asked for a specific beer they thought it was ok just to give you any beer! Not so drastic with The Dream repositioning but if there are changes taking place or work going on then you have no valid complaints about it:) Edited January 17, 2014 by fishtaco
GottaLuvCruising Posted January 17, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 17, 2014 I would like to book it, too, but as a single. Right now single fare reflects 200% of the double, so I'm waiting and watching.
winddawn Posted January 17, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 17, 2014 More expensive transportation for many people. We prefer to drive and one way air tickets are rather expensive Southwest doesn't penalize at all for booking one-way tickets. In fact, I usually book my round-trip to my cruises as one ways so it's easier to grab any price drops.

Two more repo cruises are also happening this year. You may be interested in. Sunshine Apr 6 11 days out of NO to Port Canaveral 11 days for a 7 day rate!! Splendor Nov 1 8 days out of San Juan to Fort Lauderdale 8 days really good rates..They are up about $60 from a couple weeks ago.. Both have great ports and great itineraries. carrieluvsgreg Posted January 18, 2014 #25 Share Posted January 18, 2014 We are booked in this trip in a spa stateroom!! As far as the price, it's been almost exactly the same since October when I started watching it. I really didn't expect to get to book this trip because I wanted to book while we were onboard in December. Well, not only were there spa staterooms available, but they were offering DOUBLE obc! So now our gratuities are as good as paid for plus we were able to add the $80 bar credit!! Can't wait for this trip!!
