Zaandam Relaxing journey around Cape Horn by chirk

We're active independent travelers who have done a handful of cruises, most recently in the Mediterranean with Oceania, which we loved, but the Zaandam fit our schedule out of Buenos Aires.

Headlines: The boat: you get nice privileges for a suite, including preferred boarding, tendering and disembarkation, free overnight laundry service, a private lounge, personalized service and meet/greets with the captain, not to mention plenty of space. The ship was recently refurbished but still felt aged, with wear and tear throughout. The food was unremarkable, including the desserts and the specialty restaurants--which is just as well--though the fish was surprisingly, consistently good. The exercise room was good but the two fitness guys need customer service training--and maybe new personalities. The spa was underwhelming--you get a key to a locker in which is bundled a frayed robe--not exactly setting a soothing tone. The casino was often deserted--a small group of us bonded during the twice-day-day Texas Hold 'Em tourneys on sea days. There were 1407 guests, 615 crew; it felt like fewer. Continue reading... Norwegian Epic Great vacation with some major hiccups! Pregnant travelers must read!! by MarineDive

This was my first time ever being on a cruise ship. I am a seasoned traveler for diving and was not sure how I would enjoy being on a cruise. The vacation was great overall but there were some troubles on fault of both NCL and Delta Airlines that would have completely shot this vacation to the worst in history. To start off the vacation I live in Arkansas where it snows maybe twice a year. Well it snowed 8" the night/day we were scheduled to leave. Delta airline in anticipation of cancelling flights they rerouted us to Detroit. We were initially suppose to fly into Atlanta and then Miami. The flight to Detroit was an hour and forty minutes late due to de-icing and running out of de-icing agent. That delay made us miss our connecting flight to Miami by five minutes. There were no other flights to Miami that day. We worked with our great travel agent and the airlines and was placed on stand-by for a flight into Ft. Lauderdale. With five people traveling in our party we were unable to get onto the plane as they only had two seats available. Continue reading... Great vacation with some major hiccups! MSC Divina Wonderful First Experience with MSC by NellieVA

We just returned from a seven-day sailing aboard the beautiful MSC Divina over Christmas week. As perhaps many of you reading this review, I spent the past several months reading fervently on these boards seeking out as much information as possible about MSC, in general, and the Divina in particular. My wife, (teenage) daughter, and I have been on nearly a dozen cruises running the gamut from Princess (Coral and Caribbean), Norwegian (EPIC and Spirit), RCCL (Explorer and Imagination of the Seas), Carnival (Fascination), and HAL (Oosterdam and Westerdam), but this was our first experience with MSC. I can already say, with satisfaction, that it will not be our last, as we’re already booked aboard the Orchestra in August to visit Norway and Sweden. Continue reading... Celebrity Equinox What a fantastic trip by Kerstin_k

Warning: this is a loooooong review. I wrote this while still traveling, so I remembered a lot of details. You might wanna get some coffee before you start reading. :-) Having been on one other cruise before, in the Mediterranean on the Norwegian Jade, we, a family of four with two boys aged 6 and 2, were excited to experience a Celebrity Cruise Ship now. The cruise was going to take us on an 11 night long Caribbean trip, with the Celebrity Equinox. We had booked it on short notice, only 16 days before the embarkation. The night before embarkation, we stayed at the Hampton Inn Airport North in Fort Lauderdale and were very happy with it. They offer free shuttles to and from the airport as well as the cruise port. We were notified beforehand not to arrive at the cruise pier before 12:30 pm because the ship had come in from abroad and had to go through a ship inspection as well as crew and guest immigration. The time window for checking in was 12:30 till 3:30 pm, with departure scheduled for 4:30 pm. Continue reading... What a fantastic trip

Crown Princess Volcanoes, Wines & Historical Places - Canary Islands & Transatlantic by cboyle

ABOUT US John and I (Carolyn) are retired Mississippi State University professors in our early sixties, who currently reside in central North Carolina. Both of us are natives of New Orleans and, as such, are interested in good food (and wine!) and good times. Our preferred souvenir is a small regional or national flag. On this itinerary, I would be looking for flags from Portugal, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. We enjoy both cruises and land tours; often our trips combine the two. Many of our cruises have been in the Caribbean but we have also cruised to Alaska, Australia/New Zealand, the Panama Canal, the Mediterranean/Greek Isles, Scandinavia/Russia, Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia, South America/Antarctic Peninsula, the Far East, the North Atlantic (Greenland/Iceland), parts of the British Isles, the Norwegian Fjords, the Galapagos Islands and the Holy Land/Egypt.
