upwarduk Posted January 29, 2014 #31 Share Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) having never been southern only eastern is there much difference between bonaire and grenada Bonaire is one of the Netherlands Antilles ABC islands. You will see Dutch architecture, although personally I prefer Aruba. Our Southern Caribbean Itinerary was altered last year, as Grenada has too many cruise ships in port. Many passengers were happy to go to Bonaire, because of the diving. There is not alot to see, once you have seen the salt flats and pink flamingos. It was easy to grab a cab driver, who gave us a 3-4hr tour. There was a small market and some shops, with the same old, same tee shirts, except they said Bonaire on them. Sailing into Bonaire. Grenada is in the British Commonwealth and the roads reminded me of some of ours after a bad winter- dire. It is a spice island, who will be encouraged to purchase spices almost anywhere you go. I believe there is a new port, but when we went in 2002 we were tendered. Edited January 29, 2014 by upwarduk
Barwick Cruiser Posted January 29, 2014 #32 Share Posted January 29, 2014 We did the 10 day southern Caribbean out of San Juan years ago and enjoyed it very much...have also done the 7 day out of SJ but it was way too short. We are now booked on the Eclipse 14 day from Miami Feb 2015 with the itinerary that includes the ABC islands plus lots of sea days. DH dives and I snorkel so we're both pretty excited! Also, leaving from Miami gives us the option to avoid flying and try driving to the port!
