prairiesailor Posted January 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We are looking for advice on either of these two hotels for a 3 night post cruise stay in Seattle starting May 16,2014. We are looking at Hyatt Place Seattle-downtown & Hampton Inn & Suites Seattle-downtown. We don't mind walking to visit attractions. The Hampton is rated slightly higher than the Hyatt Place on Tripadvisor but lower on other sites. Any opinions greatly welcomed. Thanks.Alfred
Rare martincath Posted February 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2014 If you haven't already, check the addresses on a map. The Hampton Downtown is not actually what most folks would call downtown, it's in 'Seattle Center' near the Space Needle. That's actually our preferred part of town to stay in, so we've walked past the Hampton on many occasions though never actually stayed in it. Have stayed in many other Hamptons all over US & Canada (we find them by far the most consistent of all the chains); some better than others of course but we've never had a room, breakfast or service that didn't seem up to par. The Hyatt is closer (c. 7 blocks) to downtown proper, but close to Denny Park and the very busy '5 points' intersection at Aurora Ave/Denny Way. I would say this is one of the less salubrious parts of town - if you're seasoned urban travellers you should be fine but there are definitely nicer places to be. If annoyingly-modern decor and relatively small rooms don't bother you, there are often deals at Hotel Five which is even closer to downtown and super-convenient for the Monorail. This is the budget hotel of the local Pineapple Hospitality mini-empire - we much prefer the Maxwell but have stayed in Five and would do so again at the right price (we've had $99 per night rates in early/late cruise season).
