crystalspin Posted January 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We didn't need ours on our recent cruise with port of call at Puntarenas CR -- but we had it along on the cruise. Previously on a land-trip to various parts of CR, we were soaked to the skin not once but twice, despite hip-length GoreTex jackets. We now have knee-length truly waterproof coats from L.L.Bean! swedish weave Posted January 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We didn't need ours on our recent cruise with port of call at Puntarenas CR -- but we had it along on the cruise. If you still have your Gore-Tex jackets, this info may be helpful to you. At any rate, it may help others. http://www.gore-tex.com/remote/Satellite/content/care-center/restoring-water-repellency
crystalspin Posted January 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Thanks Bill, that was quite interesting! It might have been a factor, but my feeling at the time was that the drops were so small (mist?) that they were confounding the pores of the GoreTex. Plus the wicking from the runoff on the upper legs. I did pass on the jackets to family members who live in the desert and don't experience the rain-that-is-solid-mist but occasionally do get thundershowers, so we (they) can still use that information.
