Beaferd Posted February 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2014 DH and I are considering eating breakfast in the main dining room but have always gone to the WJ. Am interested in everyone's pros and cons.
RavennaM Posted February 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2014 You should definitely try main diningroom. Much better breakfast there than WJ. Much more quieter atmosphere. Food is also better. Absolutely loved French toast, omelettes and eggs benedict.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I enjoy a leisurely breakfast sometimes and if I want to be waited on then that's where I go. If I don't want to wait for a large table to be filled before orders are taken / distributed I'll sit alone or on a smaller table. I have dietary needs so can get GF pancakes, french toast etc cooked to order.
Rare LMaxwell Posted February 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2014 There will be a small buffet setup in the MDR for breakfast as well as the menu you order from. I like MDR breakfast. Made to order breakfast is better than WJ for sure, and the buffet section allows you to tailor sides and such as you like. MDR breakfast and lunch is excellent. You can be out in reasonable time from either. Much less chaos than Windjammer (Conversely, Windjammer is the quieter, less chaotic place for dinner). By the way, do you know if the buffet section is on all RC ships? I know it is in Oasis and Allure but what about Indy and freedom or even smaller ships? cb at sea Posted February 2, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We ALWAYS eat breakfast in the dining room! It's so much nicer than dealing with a buffet, where you are constantly searching for stuff, like syrup, butter, etc.....in the dining room, all that will be on the table, so your food won't get cold while you're scurrying around trying to find what you need! garnetpalmetto Posted February 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2014 By the way, do you know if the buffet section is on all RC ships? I know it is in Oasis and Allure but what about Indy and freedom or even smaller ships? They've had one on all three ships I've been on (Grandeur, Freedom, and Serenade) , so I'd assume it's de rigeur at breakfast.
sellwingri Posted February 2, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We love eating breakfast in the MDR. At dinner, we enjoy a big table but at breakfast, we always ask for and get a table for the 3 of us. Food is usually hot and you get to relax and not fight others for a clean table. Only time we eat in the Windjammer is if we sleep too late.
zjc Posted February 2, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Are you likely to be able to get a 2 table at breakfast in the MDR? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
SamFritz Posted February 2, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2014 The only time we'd have breakfast in the Windjammer would be if we had an early excursion and needed to eat quickly Sent from my SM-T217S using Tapatalk
sellwingri Posted February 2, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Are you likely to be able to get a 2 table at breakfast in the MDR? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Yes. All you have to do is ask for a table for 2. you may have to wait a minute or 2 but not long.
MommaBear55 Posted February 2, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Are you likely to be able to get a 2 table at breakfast in the MDR? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk You can, but it is not the way it is usually done. I would only request a table for two if you were not in a good mood or if you felt you might be coming down with something. The only time we have done it was when DH and I were in the middle of a "discussion" that was going to spill over onto our breakfast time. I am very found of the granola and fresh fruit buffet in the MDR for breakfast. We go to the WJ when we want made to order omelets or have an early excursion. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 2, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Are you likely to be able to get a 2 table at breakfast in the MDR? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk It's pretty much the same table plan as at lunch and dinner. I've been known to wake with a 'headache' and want to sit alone and be looked after..... blfbrat Posted February 2, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We prefer the MDR for both lunch and breakfast. We love meeting new people. We love the fresh made food. We love the lack of trying to find a table. My dh is in a motorize wheel chair, so much easier than trying to get around all the people. At lunch the salad is wonderful. The diamond breakfast room is nice also, lots of quick service.
Rare APDMOM Posted February 2, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We love MDR breakfast for the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. We always ask for a small table. It is never a problem or frowned upon. We also tip our breakfast staff - our preference. We especially recommend it for the last morning to avoid the mad dash in the Windjammer :D Sometimes we will just quickly skim the Windjammer to see if there is something appealing. TEXASMUNK Posted February 2, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Have someone bring everything to yoo...or...lug your plates, knifes, forks, spoons yourself Stand in line behind the person who loves to touch the food. Or have someone bring I to you. Stand in line behind the person who cannot seem to make up their mind or, have someone bring it to you. Get your semi-warm/cold food or have someone bring it to you. Walk about 7.5 miles looking for a place to sit, or be greeted with a smile, escorted to your table and have a wait staff just waiting to bring everything to you. Gee, tough decision!!!!!!!!!!!! Chuggiebug Posted February 2, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Always do breakfast in MDR. We enjoy a large table and talking with others.
stephanievrubio Posted February 2, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Great recommendations vets! I hadn't realized the MDR was so much more convinient than the WJ for breakfast. We'll have to remember that next time.
luvscruising2007 Posted February 2, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We end up missing the MDR for breakfast because we are often too late. They have limited hours for breakfast and lunch. So, make sure you check the Compass for hours each day.
MrsPete Posted February 2, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We usually split our breakfasts between the two. They're different experiences, and I'm glad we have the option of choice: MDR: - Opens later, so good for at-sea days - It's a slower, more leisurely paced breakfast - Arrive at door, wait to be seated - Usually you're placed with a group of people, which means you need to be social early in the morning -- you can ask for a small table, but you'll wait for that too - Order your food, wait - Best choice if you want pancakes or French toast; eggs are moderate -- everything comes under a steamer tray, which is a hint that it isn't straight-from-the-pan fresh -- what it really means is they prepare everyone at your table's food, and then deliver it when the last plate is ready - Can order Eggs Benedict, though don't expect it to be fast - Offers chocolate breakfast once a week, which is fun but not a make-or-break Windjammer: - Abbreviated service (i.e, drinks and pastries) are available super early - All food is available earlier than the MDR - Walk straight in and pick up your food -- no waiting - Wider selection of foods, including miso soup, which is a big favorite of ours; larger availability of fresh fruits - Not the best choice for pancakes or French toast, which don't benefit from sitting - You can order eggs (or omelets) to your specifications and watch them cook; this is the only way to get straight-to-you-fresh eggs - You can get a small table to yourself - It is not crowded, unless it's a port day and people are scurrying to get off the ship all at the same time

Beaferd Posted February 3, 2014 Author #24 Share Posted February 3, 2014 Sounds like the place to be for breakfast is the MDR. Thanks for all the replies. Sailing in three days on the Navigator just out of dry dock and am looking forward to breakfast.
MikeinHungerrford Posted February 3, 2014 #25 Share Posted February 3, 2014 Breakfast in the main dining room is the best with fresh hot food, fast service and getting to dine with new folks that are always friendly. Have always used it. Would never used Windjammer again
