2red4u Posted February 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2014 I get it's an auction but I don't understand why on a cruise ship. Is it a fun time, something not to be missed. Like an activity or what? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm sure more are to follow. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Valen9 Posted February 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2014 It's on a cruise ship because there are lots of people there who have money and nothing better to do. There are several thousand things I'd rather be doing than listen to them try to convince me that the art is worth the prices they want for it. Enough people must fall for this since they seem to be making a big profit. I suppose you could take the time to attend and find out for yourself. If you like auctions and have a few hundred dollars you want to spend on art, then go for it.
2red4u Posted February 8, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted February 8, 2014 We do like auctions but are not going to waste cruise time bidding on art I can purchase at home. Thank you I just didn't want miss out on a fun time. I thought maybe it was a play on words or heck I don't even know what else but To each their own, we can skip it. RJ2002 Posted February 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2014 You might get a free glass of really bad sparkling wine if you are desperate. ;) Google "park west" and "litigation" for some interesting reading.
2red4u Posted February 8, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted February 8, 2014 Just briefly read through those sites added in cruise auction when searching. Maybe it would be fun to watch but then I would get really uhm.. Let's just say "unhappy" of elderly or anyone really anyone thinking they were getting some kind of rare art and being taken advantage of. And the more free alcohol the more I would be "unhappy" we will stay away. Shoot I was really hoping it was something different, although I don't what. luddite Posted February 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2014 Martini Clinic is a better use of your time and money. Casino is a better use of your time and money. Throwing money at strangers is a better use of your time and money. Making actual money bets while playing Elevator Roulette is a better use of your time and money. Starting up a serious cocaine habit is a better use of your time and money.

johnql Posted February 8, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2014 I actually enjoy attending the art auctions. I don't often buy anything but if the auctioneer is interesting and informative, I think it can be a fun, entertaining and even educational event. I like to put tags on paintings that I find ridiculously ugly, then find out when they bring them up how much they are going for, and watch the art auctioneer talk them up. And I don't go for the one glass of sparkling wine.....you can get as many as you can grab ;-) All in all, I find it to be a fun time, and for me a cruise don't miss. Like an activity or what? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm sure more are to follow. Sent from my iPhone using Forums First off, not sure why you think this is a stupid question. ??? Anyways, why an art auction on a cruise ship? For the same reason there seems to be jewelry stores in every port of call. For the same reason people swarm the atrium during sales. People want to buy stuff. Other than trinkets and small souvenirs, I will never figure out why people will buy valuable stuff away from home. They just do.
