Why are Royal Caribbean pools freezing and Princess ships pools warm?

From my own experience on several lines I have found the following: Carnival has salt water pools that can be heated, Holland has fresh water in the central main pool that can be heated and salt water in the aft pool, Princess has fresh water in all its pools that can be heated and the four Royal ships I've been on all had salt water pools that were not heated. Several years ago Royal was running a very effective winter ad series telling us to get out of the cold and onto their ships. We were so excited to have gotten aboard the Mariner in Port Canaveral and ready to start our warm up by jumping into the main pools. Aaaahhhh, Freezing!!! I don't care about those polar bear swimmers from wherever. The rest of us want at least 75* water and 80* in mild to cool weather. I found the Captain out and about and mentioned this to him and, of course, he blew me off with some excuse I can't remember. Colossal error on RCI's part after selling us on a warm cruise and not following through by leaving cold water in the pools. I have not had very good success on any line when I mention the cool water temps and try to get them to do something. I agree with a previous poster who mentioned this should be a corporate policy and somebody should be paying attention onboard. Some do and some don't........

Never thought I'd ever hear complaints about pool water temperature. Maybe it's because I'm from the northeast. We have some great beaches up here but if some of you visit, you may want to avoid going in the water.

We usually use the Solarium pool on Radiance to avoid the kids & have found it mostly cool to warm.

 

On our Alaska cruise last year we had lovely weather & one afternoon on a port day found the outside pool & hot tubs fairly empty. So we went in the hot tub & then someone mentioned the pool was warm, we tried & it was like a bath - perfect temperature & after being in the hot tub I was surprised it didn't feel freezing, so they must heat the pools on colder climate cruises?

 

But I would rather fresh cooler sea water pools with natural salts & new water daily than chlorinated fresh water pools with days of accumulated who knows what from hundreds of people. ;)

What makes you think the salt water is not filtered and chlorinated? It's the chlorine that kills the bacteria and germs. We're talking about wanting warmer water in the pool on mild to cool days, which you mentioned you enjoyed on your Alaska cruise.

Hot salt water causes more corrosion than cool so if it is a saltwater system to heat it causes major maintenance issues
