cruiserdru Posted February 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Never been on a ship with a Café Caribe and we are going to be on the Crown in June. The Princess Dining Guide shows The Horizon Court as closed for dinner and the Café Caribe is open. What kind of venue is the Café? Is it table service or still a buffet? Is it walk-in or reservations required? Saw somewhere that it has themed nights. Are they advertised in the Patters? Does it take over the entire Horizon Court space or is it a very limited venue? From the deck plans, it appears to be less than half of the space normally seen for Horizon Court? As we will have a 9-year old granddaughter with us, there are probably times we will not want to go to the main dining room and I am interested in what this venue has to offer. I had just assumed that Horizon Court was an option and it appears that is not true. Thanks for any help. Would have searched but the search function is still down. From the deck plans, it appears to be less than half of the space normally seen for Horizon Court? Cafe Caribe and Horizon Ct. are both buffets, with shared seating areas. It is walk in with no reservations. Table service for drinks. The Cafe Caribe serving area is more like a cafeteria line that you walk through while the Horizon Ct. has a more random access serving area. Think of it as just another option for the buffet rather than a separate dining venue. The Cafe Caribe line is open for breakfast each morning with a little less variety of selections than the Horizon Ct. Lines, Open on sea days for lunch closing around 3pm and then reopens for dinner. On the Emerald a few weeks ago some evenings the Cafe Caribe was converted into the Crab Shack, with reservations recommended. Both Cafe Caribe and the Horizon Ct. have theme menus for lunch and dinner. Check when on board. On the Emerald just a few weeks ago the Horizon Ct. was never closed for dinner. It was open every day from around 6am until midnight.
Pam in CA Posted February 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Sknight has given you a very good explanation. Think of the Horizon Court and Cafe Caribe as one big buffet with two separate serving areas. Towards the aft of the buffet is the Cafe Caribe with a smaller serving area and fewer choices. At night, there are tablecloths on the tables along with napkins and utensils and, as usual, beverage service. All Princess ships have tableside beverage service. You can even order wine at dinner or ask to have your bottle of wine from the dining room delivered and poured. On the Royal last October, we kept our bottles of wine stored at the buffet. Buffet themes are in the Patter for the next day in the section where the dining times are listed. It's usually in small print so it's easily missed.
