mnsweeps Posted February 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Okay I am a frugal guy but I will be carrying some cash with me for emergency and other outside excursions which accepts only cash. Plus the fact that we are flying from L.A to FLL the previous day so cash may be required anywhere. To keep it short, I want to know which banks have ATMs in W Caribbean itinerary which doesn't or charges the least in convenience fees if I have to use it. To give you a background, we carried less cash during our Puerto Rico trip in december and we needed cash a couple of times and I paid through my nose to withdraw money from local branches. I just want to avoid that situation.
Gamecock_Cruiser Posted February 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I think I would rather pay the rate to use the ATM on the ship. The way people CC information is being stole nowdays, I would be very concerned about using it is foriegn countries. Also, I would contact the card company if you plan to use it outside the US so they don't think that the card has been stolen.
paul929207 Posted February 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2014 In most cases, ATMs will dispense cash in the local currency. So if you are out of the US, you will NOT get US$
Rare 1025cruise Posted February 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I would suggest bringing as much cash as you feel necessary. You can always change larger bills for smaller ones.

As for other countries they will dispense local currency and you will pay fees to do so. So either take US cash or us travelers checks which the cruise line may cash. Some cruise lines allow you to draw cash in the casino for nominal or no charge(varies by cruise line)...
Rare LHT28 Posted February 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Grand Cayman you can choose USD or Cayman dollars from the ATM's check to see if your bank has a branch there Get funds in FLL & use a security money pouch then keep the safe onboard just take what you may need ashore Edited February 24, 2014 by LHT28
