Western style formal wear required?

Hello,

Just wondering if traditional formal wear from my country (Thailand) would be acceptable for men? or is black tie the only accepted wear?

I read that some men wear kilts, which I find odd.

Like this photo below. Not my photo BTW, just an example.

Personally, I find it completely appropriate.

Enjoy your cruise

Perfectly acceptable. Arguably it's not strictly within certain interpretations of the dress code but acceptable nevertheless.

In fact it's more than acceptable because that looks so much better than a tuxedo. Maybe I'll buy a suit like that.

You should absolutely feel comfortable wearing your native formal attire. We've been on two different cruises where we wore traditional East Indian clothes - no one ever commented at least not negatively!:)

It's fairly common to see formal attire from various lands. I don't think I've been on a cruise yet without several men in kilts. Beyond that I've seen formal wear from various Asian and African countries. Of course the other thing one frequently sees are military dress uniforms representing various nations. All completely appropriate.

Black tie is neither required nor common. Most people these dress semi-formally at best on formal night. Your attire will be fine.

Your attire looks lovely:)

You mentioned in your post that seeing Men in Kilts is odd? Nothing

odd about it really. I have seen many men in their Kilts on formal night.

Just as your outfit is more than acceptable, Kilt's are very acceptable

too. I think it is dashing:D

I was on Solstice with a large group from Korea. The women wore their traditional dress for dinner every night, and looked absolutely beautiful. The design of the dress and the amazing fabrics were astonishing and I found myself complimenting them every evening.

Stunning and more than acceptable. When the thread mentioned “Western Style” I was expecting a question about U.S. “Western/Cowboy” wear

Enjoy

LOL....I thought the exact same thing when I saw the title too!:D

I was thinking if they are going to ask if Cowboy boots are ok;)

and no, there is nothing wrong with cowboy boots:)......

I was just thinking more of "the old west" when I saw the title.

I also encourage you to wear your formal or dressy native clothing. It adds to the international flavor of the cruise, which is part of the experience for us. We love conversing and understanding/learning about the clothing, food, languages, and other customs of our fellow travelers.

Enjoy your trip.

Actually, I would be offended if someone was turned away from the MDR when wearing their native traditional wear. And since a lot of the wait staff in the MDR is from the East, I am sure they are familiar with traditional dress.

Your national dress would be fine, why would you find mine (for men) odd? Full Highland dress (it's not just the kilt) is IMO smarter than any tuxedo I've ever seen and there's a lot more to it as well! (12 items!)
