And it worked out perfectly in case anyone else is interested. We didn't have to pay for the bag because we fly SW. Easy Peasy and we'll def do it again next time.

Was in the casino and had given a dt. mtn dew to a friend and a lady said "I'd kill for a Dt. Mtn Dew about now". I would have given her one but it was almost the last nite and we only had one left and it was earmarked for DH.

We stop by a store and get drinks before our cruise. Carnival lets you walk right on with a bottle of wine, a 12 pack of soda, or a case of water. Each of us had our personal preference with us when we boarded since Carnival doesn't serve our favorite beverages. Glad you took your stuff right on and enjoyed it. :)

I plan on taking a few sodas and water with me too. I don't understand why it is not included anyway. This is my first cruise and I just don't understand why they can't include soda and water. Why not even juice all day, not just for breakfast.

All cruise lines are different, some give you juice, coffee, tea, iced tea all day. Water is readily available out of the tap and is just as good as any you can buy. Soda depends on the cruise line, some you pay for, some you don't.

Water is always included, doesn't come in a bottle but is made by the same purification process as most bottled water. Disney includes soda in your fare. But, of course, they build the cost into the cruise fare. I don't drink soda so am pleased that I'm not supplementing someone else's cruise. You can fill sports bottles with juice in the morning and keep it in your fridge if you want it all day. Not really all that difficult. No way would I be hauling cases of water on a cruise. People took cruises years before anyone thought of mass marketing bottled water and lived to tell about it.

I would rather have my suitcase full of clothes :D

I still don't get packing a suitcase with beverages for a flight Most of the time airlines charge for extra bags or extra weight. And even though, why schlep 'em like that. Get to your embarkation city a day ahead and get the drinks at a grocery store. That's easy peasy.

As many have said, the water on board the ship is likely much more pure than the water you buy in a store. There is no earthly reason to lug a case of water on a plane, on a train, and particularly on a ship! Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. Take a refillable sports bottle, or take one empty water bottle and refill it on the ship. The ship's water is made via a reverse osmosis system which filters out everything (like many bottled waters that are not spring water), or it is made via an evaporator system which makes distilled water, which is pure H2O.

As for soda, I do bring some aboard as I like what I like (Diet Rite Cola) which is not available on board. It used to be that you paid for soda on the ships, but many lines now give free sodas, but if I am not flying internationally, I will try to get some of what I like to have aboard.

JustCruiseMe,

I'd appreciate the info that you got it onboard but I'd be interested in what cruise line & ship.

Personally I prefer my bottled water if I cant have my home well water, was at the doctors & she had me drink their tapwater for a test, it was nasty treated town water, blech.

Funny how many have to tell others they are wrong for wanting to drink bottled water if they want too, its like the people opposed to it are paying it themselves or something 8/

I feel the same way. I hate carrying anything. I did take the allowed wine with me and believe it or not carried it home. I never sat in room to drink it and just bought a glass with dinner. $6-8 is normal for glass of wine so never cared.

I would hate to be the person whose suitcase was under the one with rupturing soda cans. They saved $10-20 for the week not buying soda, but it may cost the unfortunate soul twice that to get their clothing cleaned.

You got lucky this time, maybe not the next or someone else reading this thread.

Just buy soda prior to boarding in the port town. So much easier.

Thanks so much for this info. Going on the liberty in May and flying SW also and thought about doing this, but was worried about the way they handle the luggage.

I am going to get that bubble wrap and line my suitcase just in case.
