dan40 Posted July 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2005 You can go to the pursers desk and get a hole punched in your card. But there will be a long line the first day. Instead go to the casino. It will be closed but there will be people manning ths cashiers cages. Join Ocean Players club [free] and they'll punch your card and give you a springy plastic lanyard. nlt46 Posted July 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I always make a hole myself with little scissors. It isn't hard. Then I bring gold elastic cord and I thread it through the hole. I have enough cord to have it go around my neck and hit about when a long necklace would. I do this every cruise and I love it. I can wear it under my clothes and I never worry about misplacing my card. Nancy

Bunkie103 Posted July 25, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I love the springy cord from the casino. It's long enough to put the card in your pocket, even if you attach it to your tank top shoulder strap.
scooter90 Posted July 25, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I purchased a small hole punch at WalMart for $0.99 -- packed it in my carry on and while we were waiting to board, I punched all our Sail & Sign cards and attached them to the laynards. My family thought I was geeky but it helped pass the time and we didn't have to worry about it once we boarded.
freckles58 Posted July 25, 2005 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I didn't do the lanyard thing, instead opting to carry a very small, thin purse with a handle that went over my shoulder, tucked under my armpit. Worked well for the first cruise. I could have both my hands free and it wasn't bulky or annoying. Got it at Target for under $10. Well, all that said...this time I somehow managed to drop it or the strap broke and...I never saw it again. Gone. Totally and completely, along with my sign and sail card, my soda card, $40 in drink coupons, $40 in cash and my favorite lip liner! I backtracked my steps because I realized it immediately but it was no where to be found. I reported it to the purser immediately. They issued me a new S&S and soda card but I was out of luck with the drink coupons. I am going to write Carnival about that!! Anyway, it never showed up ( someone had a nice little bonus on me)so ....lanyard here I come!!
SxyEbnyFem Posted July 25, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I purchased these for us to use on our first cruise in Jan. At first, DBF wasn't liking the idea of having the wear this around his neck, but by the second day, he was thanking my up & down! The rest of the gang we cruise with told me I should have picked them up one as well. Oppps! It also has a zipper pocket that can hold money, drink coupons, etc. I plan on getting these for my gals for our Oct cruise, too. Here it is: http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=313456&D=name+bage&Ntk=all&Nr=FILTER(domestic)&Nty=1&No=10&Ne=1+5&Ntt=name+bage&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=10324&Ns=p_Price|0&uniqueSearchFlag=true&An=text Happy sailing, T. sea_u_onboard Posted July 25, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I bought something similar to this - http://www.cartom.virtual-space.com/misc.htm for our next cruise. I will probably use the lanyard while on the ship - but use this off the ship for my S&S, cash, Credit Card and extra cash. I plan to flip mine inside out so that the opening is next to my skin. I think it will work well.
excitedcruiser Posted July 25, 2005 #13 Share Posted July 25, 2005 My sister just got off the Elation last month and could not find any free Laynards. They tried the purser's desk and the casino and were told that Carnival doesn't have free laynards. They have to be purchased in the gift store. They will punch your card for free though. Kaycee1 Posted July 25, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I also bought a hole punch at Walmart. Walmart also has the lanyards they are in the section where they sell sunglasses and such. I think the most expensive one I bought was three dollars for my son, it had footballs on it. The plain ones are even less.:)
Starfire_rules Posted July 25, 2005 #15 Share Posted July 25, 2005 I got a Puritan ID reel with removable ID window at Walmart for $0.97. It is located in the Jewelry department with the wallets. It has a retractable cord. It doesn't go around you neck though.
LornaT Posted July 25, 2005 #16 Share Posted July 25, 2005 Carnival is correct "Lanyards" are for sale in the Shop. The Casino hands out those spring looking type things like the Slot Club Cards go on from Las Vegas Casinos for free and will punch your S&S Card for you also. The shops also usually have a waterproof type plastic case (assorted colors), a zippered nylon pouch with 2 pockets and a plastic lsot in the back (Red, Black and Royal Blue) on the same rack as the fanny-packs with the Carnival logo on it. Catrin Posted July 25, 2005 #17 Share Posted July 25, 2005 Old Navy has some simple Lanyards too. We have used these our past two cruises, and will again. The pursar needs to punch a hole and a half for those, because the hook is a little larger. You can find them at the check outs at Old Navy all the time. rkmom Posted July 28, 2005 #18 Share Posted July 28, 2005 I got my card punched at the pursers desk, and then just used a large safety pin through the hole. I could pin it inside my pocket and it was not noticeable, but not easily lost or forgotten, and not in my way around my neck. And that works even for swimsuits or things with no pockets. I also took a hole puncher and punched a hole in our AAA card to carry it with me on the safety pin, too(that is what we used for the safe). Have fun! Isabelle21 Posted July 28, 2005 #19 Share Posted July 28, 2005 I was on the Carnival Conquest in Jan. and they had free lanyards on the first day. It was on the upper level of the atrium before you go out to the Lido pool. They were handing out free ones. We didn't punch a hole in the S&S card, but just put it in the little pouch that came with it. I hope they give out free ones on our next cruise because they were so nice! Astronomer Posted July 28, 2005 #20 Share Posted July 28, 2005 Note to self - bring birghtly colored springy lanyards we got the last time we were in vegas. And perhaps a hole punch.
dan40 Posted July 28, 2005 #21 Share Posted July 28, 2005 Go to the casino cashiers cage [any day of the cruise, but day 1 when casino is closed is best] and tell them you want to join Ocean Players club. They will give you a card to fill out [name rank & horsepower, etc.] when you give it back they will punch your S&S with a slot shaped punch [about 3/4"X 1/8"] that's much nicer than the pursers big ole hole punch. And they will give you a springy plastic lanyard. [long enough for you to stick it in a slot machine's play counter slot] Free to join and if you rack up enough playing points there are free gifts available. MelBCroozer Posted July 29, 2005 #22 Share Posted July 29, 2005 Our friend, who is a nurse, got a bunch of lanyards from the hospital where she works. We gave them to the kids and they loved them. They were the stretchy wire ones. They worked well. Better than wearing the ones around your neck. The purser's office punched the wholes on the second day. Forchunut1 Posted July 29, 2005 #23 Share Posted July 29, 2005 I have a badge holder from work that works really well. I has a clip that goes on a belt, belt loop, pocket, waistband, etc. and has a retractable cord with a clear plastic case that the S & S card slides into. Very easy to keep track of. I also have several around-the-neck badge holders from business conferences I have attended like a previous poster got at Office Depot . Before I started going on cruises I always wondered what I could do with those after the conference. Now I know! :)
