nol4am Posted March 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2014 Hi all, My son recently received the free cabin offer and since he was 20, his father and I also booked as the 3rd and 4th person. He started a new job about month ago and they have told him he may not be able to take the week off. They haven't told him no yet but it does look doubtful. My question is, Has anyone booked a free cabin offer and then wasn't able to go? Did any penaltys take place?
hftmrock Posted March 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2014 from what I read previously, they do look for the one who actually got the offer. if he is not there, I think the others have to pay full fare. (not 3rd and 4th passenger fare. Also the second person would have to pay full fare (not free)
Disconnections Posted March 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2014 When arriving at the pier, just say he is on his way. He will then "miss" the ship. If you call beforehand, two passengers will have their fare modified to reflect the current first/second guest rate and the third guest's fare may increase slightly. hftmrock Posted March 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2014 in this situation, I dont know if that trick will work. someone posted that if the free ticket holder is not there (missed the ship or called to cancel) all has to pay full fare. there is a thread somewhere about this

ccruiser333 Posted March 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2014 We booked the free cabin offer and bought the very inexpensive insurence ,based on what you paid ...in our case just taxes. Without it we were told we would be charged full price for the cruise if for any reason we had to cancel and also could not changes main booking name

ALWAYS take the insurance for these as you must pay full fare if you are unable to make the cruise for any reason. The insurance is a small price to pay to CYA.
