meatball_nyc Posted March 11, 2014 #26 Share Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) I'm weird. I get car sick but NEVER get sea sick on a ship or boat!! Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but bringing those little LED tea lights are better than nightlights IMHO. I find night lights too bright. The tea lights I put in the bathroom and on the cabin desk and/or night tables. It's pitch black in the cabins at night! I need to know what time it is when I wake up, but don't wear watches and my cell phone is off and in the safe. So I bring a battery operated travel clock that lights up when you push the button. Have a great cruise!! ~Robin Norwegian Breakaway July 2014 Carnival Miracle 2010 Carnival Legend 2006 Edited March 11, 2014 by meatball_nyc
snc_cam Posted March 11, 2014 #27 Share Posted March 11, 2014 My wife has a little night light that takes up very little space... But over the past few cruises, we leave the light in the bathroom on. Since the door isn't a tight seal, there is enough light from the bottom of the door for her. I bring a watch to wear when in ports. I use the phone for in the cabin to set as an alarm as well. When we are not there, it also goes in the safe.
TheCalicoCat Posted March 11, 2014 #28 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Only my 4th cruise and my friends 1st cruise. What are somethings we MAY forget to pack? We leave in 6 days and are starting to pre-pack! What are some other tips we need to know? Leaving out of jacksonville! My friend gets car sick and we are taking bonine for her. I have never been prone to sea sickness on any of my cruises! Any advice would be appreciated! I havent cruised in 3 years so I am a little rusty!!! Thank you so much! :) I once asked a similar question & was told that I needed an over the door shoe organizer. I got one & promptly forgot to pack it. I never thought, "I wish I had that over the door show organizer." Meanwhile, I know someone who needed Aspirin/Acetaminophen/whatever pain killer it was & purchased it on the ship for $8 - so while I am not advocating bringing a pharmacy, it is probably better to have aspirin & pepto with you. PROCRUISE Posted March 11, 2014 #29 Share Posted March 11, 2014 All previous suggestions are good. We also take a small, strong flashlight... just in case!
apkpcruisers Posted March 11, 2014 #30 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Light jacket/sweater for dining room, and those late night strolls. Last cruise we forgot sunscreen and a tie for formal night. Small purse to carry sign and sail card and chap stick/ lipstick. :) 1 dollar bills for tipping in port. Nail file, I always seem to need this and usually forget it. OCruisers Posted March 11, 2014 #31 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Do take a sweater or wrap of some sort. The a/c on ships can get very chilly. Also keep in mind ... sometimes JAX is warmer than it is others. ;) LuLu ~~~

2 cruzen Posted March 11, 2014 #34 Share Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Last week there was an awesome packing list pdf...it got moved to a different section, but if the search function is working, just type in "packing", hit search, and it should come up. It was a pretty complete list. I added a couple of things, but don't worry about the extension cord or power strip as all electronics are off after we leave port. :D oops....just noticed the post before me listed it. Yay!!! dubois Posted March 11, 2014 #35 Share Posted March 11, 2014 One of the things I do, is bring our passports, Birth Certificates and photo Ids. I carry the passports, and I have my DW carry the Birth Certificates and IDs. My thinking is that if something is lost/stolen we're still getting on the ship. lovepea Posted March 11, 2014 #36 Share Posted March 11, 2014 A note from someone who gets extreme motion sickness when cruising... After several cruises, I have found that starting the bonine a couple of days before the cruise helps me to adjust to it better. If you wait to take it until you feel sick, it's too late. Also, ginger candies (or chews) work really well to help with light nausea.
firespud Posted March 11, 2014 #37 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We always take a "used" gift card, with no value. We use it for the safe. You can hide it in your room and then whoever needs to get in the safe can. We also like to take our refillable water bottles. Easier than carrying on bottled water and you can refill them to take into port.

I get car sick but NEVER get sea sick on a ship or boat!! ~Robin Norwegian Breakaway July 2014 Carnival Miracle 2010 Carnival Legend 2006 Me too! ams1130 Posted March 12, 2014 #39 Share Posted March 12, 2014 I wish I had brought an extra swimsuit coverup. I'm sure I could have rinsed mine out, but didn't. It felt a bit weighted from sunscreen by the end of our cruise.:o
PrettyHazardous Posted March 12, 2014 #40 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Nail polish and remover I paid 11 for remover on board. Also just to be safe tampins. Let's just say u don't wanna have to purchase them in port, esp in the Carib due to moisture, they are nothing like we have at home. RRs, contact so,union if you wear them. I always bring snack like granola bars and sunflower seeds. A book! Hope this helps. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Julia1969 Posted March 12, 2014 #43 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Did you take it once a day or what? I told her to start taking it sunday night (we leave monday) My daughter gets terribly sick in the car. Even at work they have to allow her to ride in the front seat or drive when they are going to a job site. That being said, she has no problem on a cruise. We have taken 4 so far and one was during very rough water. However, on the first cruise we did have her take it 24 hours before we boarded the boat and then 24 hours later. By then she could tell she didn't need it and stopped taking for the last 6 days. I think for a first cruise, start with the 24 hours before and the morning of and see how it goes from there. Have a great time!

Aftastic Posted March 12, 2014 #47 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Condoms and batteries for bedtime devices. You don't want to be down in the shop spending $50 on a 2-pack of condoms and a 4-pack of AAA-batteries on your first night. Forgetting something as simple as those two things can ruin a cruise for many.
jagsgirl2005 Posted March 12, 2014 Author #48 Share Posted March 12, 2014 THANKS! :) Also, we are 2 rooms from the hallway in the "aft" section. It is literally almost midship. Will we feel any difference?
Throwdownmyace Posted March 12, 2014 #49 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Coffee cup/cup with lid. Beach bag, underwear ( I always forget) lots of single dollars for tips and taxis and a beach book, sunglasses wine --oh I never forget that!
ccruisequeen Posted March 12, 2014 #50 Share Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) OTC MEDS. Can be expensive. A magnetic strip card for the safe (just in case) don't use your SS cards or credit card. I use an old casino card. A small clock. Candy in case you have a sweet tooth. Edited March 12, 2014 by ccruisequeen
