RetiredArmyCruiser Posted March 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2014 The Spirit is a great ship and if you have small children, there aren't many better kid's pools afloat. We had a wonderful time on the Spirit and would gladly sail her again!

Rare Tapi Posted March 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Although it seems like the Spirit is an NCL favorite, IMHO it's an odd choice to compete with the ships currently sailing from there on 7 night itineraries. But maybe that's exactly why she's being sent there; to attract people that DONT want the 100,000 plus ton ships with all the newest bells and whistles. 8675309Jenny Posted March 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2014 i hope they set up a shuttle from the orlando airport at a reasonable rate. it will make this cruise port a lot more attractive for many people. =========================== my getaway to do: watch the fireworks go to the magic show play for free in the casino ride the waterslides

perkydebrajean Posted March 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2014 My husband and I prefer a smaller ship so we're thrilled! Still a long drive but at least it's closer than Miami. DH said that now if only they'd put a ship in Port Canaveral that goes to Bermuda!
cpcanuck Posted March 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2014 My husband and I prefer a smaller ship so we're thrilled! Still a long drive but at least it's closer than Miami. DH said that now if only they'd put a ship in Port Canaveral that goes to Bermuda! Yup! That certainly got my attention - a mid-sized ship at a port that normally has huge ships. I happen to be one of the ones who would rather not set foot on any mega ship regardless of cruise line. I am on the look out for interesting itineraries with smaller ships that are not luxury over the top $$$. NCL's mid-size ships fit the bill for me. shanet60 Posted March 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2014 They could put a mega ship in port Canaveral and I think it would sale out faster than Miami as it is closer to most people in the US who cruise!!
jdvmd Posted March 12, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Awesome! I have heard nothing but great things about the Spirit! Many of my friends think she is the best in the fleet. Would love to sail on her!

DDMau Posted March 13, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2014 This sounds good, I have not been to Port Canaveral or on the Spirit yet. I'm marking the calendar for this one.
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 13, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 13, 2014 While I prefer the bigger and newer ships, the Spirit is my all time favorite smaller ship. It's just so unique and we loved the Spirit. I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again (and I can't say that about any of the other smaller ships I have been on). :)
GrrlMeetsWrrld Posted March 13, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2014 If you arrive a day ahead, try to visit Bonnet House a lovely, quirky, magical estate right in downtown along 1A (entrance a few blocks inland). I would go back just to see this again. Evening steamboat cruise along the canals with island BBQ was also fun! http://www.bonnethouse.org
GrrlMeetsWrrld Posted March 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Just realized I posted the Bonnet House recommendation on the wrong thread. But if you ever ARE in Ft. Lauderdale, it's well worth a visit.

dalgirl Posted March 13, 2014 #22 Share Posted March 13, 2014 The whole announcement yesterday was exciting just for the new choices we have. Only an 8 hour drive for us from Atlanta, Port Canaveral is a great choice and the Spirit is one ship that we haven't sailed on, so that is exciting - it has a lot of loyal fans. We had abandoned NCL in 2015 for a South American cruise on RCL. Now we are going to change out the RCL and sail to SA with NCL - it has a better itinerary than the RCL ship. Sailing on the Breakaway and Getaway this year, and looking forward to the New Escape. Things are looking good for NCL right now:D
