Recommendation hotel Sydney AU

Hi everyone.

I'm stopping at the Cambridge hotel in November pre cruise.

Has anybody stopped here before? If so, what is it like?

Very basic hotel but with all amenities therefore probably somewhat cheaper. No views. Out of the main tourist area but close to Oxford Street and then easy walk into the southern part of Hyde Park and into the centre of the city. Definitely a taxi to the cruise port.

Oxford st and Crown st has many restaurants but just be aware it is the centre of our Gay and Lesbian community. Further up Oxford there are many great fashion outlets.

Its been a long time since I stayed there but really enjoyed my week at The Russell Hotel in the Rocks area. Fantastic location for access to the harbor, bridge and ferries

The Russell is fine but people need to be aware that it is not an International type hotel but a typical Aussie Pub with some accommodation. The bar can be a bit noisy on weekends.

Location is in the main tourist area of The Rocks (first settlement in Australia).

Thanks for the reply, it's only for one night so it will be ok for us.

I always describe it as more like a large B & B than a typical hotel. Sure can't beat the location and the price was great with the US $$$ value at the time I was there.

We've stayed in most of the main hotels in Sydney.

Last February we sailed on the Radiance and left booking hotel until the last minute so not much choice. We stayed at The York by Swiss-Belhotel and were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is apartments, cheaper than any hotel I've stayed at in Sydney, own kitchen, lounge, laundry. It's a 3 minute "downhill" walk to OPT. I can recommend it to anyone for pre or post cruise.

The IBIS, Sydney, Darling Harbor Hotel, has been recommended to us. Is this a good choice? Is it safe and close to shopping and restaurant's? Any opinion's are appreciated :),

The Ibis Darling Harbour is in a safe location as are most large hotels in Sydney.

On the west side of Darling Harbour it is in a handy location to Star Casino, Maritime Museum, Fish Markets and easy access to Harbourside Shopping Centre via Pyrmont Bridge. This pedestrian only bridge also links Darling Harbour precinct with downtown Sydney.

Lots of restaurants on both sides of Darling Harbour.

There is also light rail (tram) stop opp the Maritime Museum that can take you to China Town and Paddys Markets or Central Station.

Rooms at the Ibis chain are quite small. Also check out the Novatel next door.

There is also a new Ibis at King St Wharf on the Eastern side of Darling Harbour.

Thank you for your post.

My wife and I have been looking at The York by Swiss-Belhotel for our 3 day pre-cruise in early April 2015 and we are considering the apartment option versus a hotel room.

It appears The York has been in the process of refurbishing their apartments for the last couple of years. Did you have a recently refurbished apartment? Did you have a one bedroom apartment or a studio? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Hi

We booked through booking dot com and to be honest we weren't sure what we were going to get! We had a 1 bedroom apt that hadn't been refurbished. It was spacious, clean and had everything we needed.

We are from Melbourne but go to Sydney quite often as my in-laws live there. They came into Sydney to meet us last weekend and we stayed at The York again and this time had a 2 bedroom apt which again was very spacious, clean and not refurbished

We stayed at the Rendezvous

http://www.rendezvoushotels.com/sydneytherocks/default-en.html

Beautiful view of the Harbor, walk to everything, walk to the cruise terminal.

Sshhhhhh..... we'll keep that one our secret okay? ;)

Park Hyatt is wonderful but expensive.

I liked Quay Grand (Pullman) and would stay there again.

The Langham....... never again.

Thank you so much! I've read some review's and the only "bad" thing that keep's coming up is that the room's are small. Not a problem for us, as long as they're clean! I appreciate your input :)!
