Loonbeam Posted December 1, 2015 #6677 Share Posted December 1, 2015 The original intent was to be non-smoking. There was significant backlash and loss of casino revenue as well as pressure from their casino partners. So they changed it. The smoke/smell was a huge issue when the Epic first sailed as well, don't forget smoking WAS allowed on the balconies then so disbursing the smokers all over the ship isn't the way to resolve this issue. NCL put air purifiers all around the casino area and I thought it worked! I wonder why they don't do that again...

I don't know if they still have them on Epic but it sure would be worth the couple of $$$ to place a few on all the ship's casinos :D

Loonbeam Posted December 1, 2015 #6681 Share Posted December 1, 2015 They probably will as a retrofit, but there was no need to do so with the original plan... That said, anyone who knows the gambling industry knew that was a bad call.... It's never worked for land based casinos (for a case study in how not to do things, look up the now bankrupt Revel in Atlantic City) The original intent was to be non-smoking. time2cruise1 Posted December 2, 2015 #6682 Share Posted December 2, 2015 The original intent was to be non-smoking. There was significant backlash and loss of casino revenue as well as pressure from their casino partners. So they changed it. That's not true. The original intent was smoking and no smoking areas like the away ships. FDR came onboard 2 days before the first cruise and had them remove 1/2 the machines in the hallway and rule no smoking until after the inaugural cruises. FDR came onboard 2 days before the first cruise and had them remove 1/2 the machines in the hallway and rule no smoking until after the inaugural cruises. Yep. This. The machines lost in the hallway amounted to about 10% of machines on the entire casino floor. The potential loss in revenue is enormous, which is a bit concerning given FDR's strategy to spend like a drunken sailor on multi-million dollar refurbishments…but what do I know? :D
GypsyCarrol Posted December 2, 2015 #6686 Share Posted December 2, 2015 On the Getaway their were 4 machines across in the hallway. Two on each side and walk down the middle. I noticed on a couple of videos that they only had one on each side of the aisle. Was that just for the TA? On the ship in 4 sleeps!

MisterFidgetpants Posted December 2, 2015 #6688 Share Posted December 2, 2015 can anyone say what the outlet situation is in the room? Are there any USB charging ports? Does the bathroom have a US plug or only Euro style plugs?
Loonbeam Posted December 2, 2015 #6689 Share Posted December 2, 2015 Odd, because I seem to recall all machines being labeled in one of the threads if not this one, which would be tough to do in 2 days plus reading something about it in advance of launch. If they were planning on smoking, then yes, not having air filters is a big miss (unless they do have them and just not working as well as on the Epic due to air flow) That's not true. Does the bathroom have a US plug or only Euro style plugs? I don't recall the bathroom having any plugs at all. Then again, I didn't specifically look for one. There are a couple US outlets on the desktop, and there are USB plugs on either side of the bed. That's all I recall.
Rare eroller Posted December 2, 2015 #6691 Share Posted December 2, 2015 can anyone say what the outlet situation is in the room? Are there any USB charging ports? Does the bathroom have a US plug or only Euro style plugs? In balcony cabins there are US outlets in the dresser, and a USB outlet in each bedside lamp. In the bathroom there is one "shaver only" outlet. See pic. It's up near the ceiling in the upper righthand corner of the photo. It's a little black looking box. rg24601 Posted December 2, 2015 #6692 Share Posted December 2, 2015 I must admit I was fearful that all my hard work would be undone by the Escape having a no smoking Casino, then its goes to a boxed in smoking area, now it seems like in the end it will just be another smoked out area. I was thrilled that I could smoke in the casino. I was worried originally when they said that the casino is no smoking. They could have made the whole casino smoking and nothing would have changed, the gambling junkies still would have gone there to gamble and get their fix. TheDougOut Posted December 2, 2015 #6697 Share Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Just received the email regarding the Margaritaville restaurant being a la carte. We sail this Saturday. Not much notice. A big disappointment.Carrol Is it at all interesting that NCL is waiting to email folks until a few days prior to each sailing, or is this standard operating procedure with a change like this? I was thinking maybe they're purposely waiting to notify upcoming guests in case they have to make tweaks to the policy in response to the on-board results (adjusting prices and/or shifting to cover-charge). MisterFidgetpants Posted December 2, 2015 #6699 Share Posted December 2, 2015 I already answered that question they are regular American plugs There are nearly 7K posts here, can't go through all of them. Eroller said there is a razor outlet in the bathroom, which means I may have to get an adapter for my US style plug. Nice to know about the USB chargers built in. That's a nice feature! Zena2005 Posted December 2, 2015 #6700 Share Posted December 2, 2015 Wow, we haven't moved past this whole smoking debate yet? It should be its own thread for those who want to continuously bash each other and keep beating the dead horse... Here's a question about the Escape: How's the live music been? What and where can you find it? More specifically, what is the band(s) like at 5 o'clock bar? Are they playing rock covers, 60s-70s rock covers or more of an island Caribbean sound? I'm envisioning a band comparable to what you would see at the Tropical Isle on Bourbon St; decent, but not great but does the job while your knocking down a few drinks. How has the music/band been at the pool area? Rock, reggae, calypso? Steel drums? Haven't been on the away ships, but I remember the Epic had the Blues/Jazz bar (which I know has since changed) and if I recall there was a solo act that would play out in front of the whiskey bar.
