Kreuzfahrtneuling Posted April 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Hi, We'll be docked at Invergordon in August. That day we are planning to see the highland games in Helmsdale....Any experiences? We are planning to drive to Urquardt castle (Loch Ness) early in the morning before the hordes get there and then chill at the games in Helmsdale for the rest of the day. What kind of food do they serve at those games? Are foreigners welcome to watch, or is it more of a local party? Thanks, Stef

tartanexile81 Posted April 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2014 It's certainly not just for locals and I'm sure you'll see other tourists there. Haven't been to these games so can't say for certain but as it will basically be taking place in a field, you will probably juts get burger vans etc. If you walk into village, there are more choices http://www.helmsdale.org/eating-and-drinking.html

ozscotart Posted April 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2014 We used to stop off in Helmsdale every year, not for the Highland Games, but to visit Timespan, a small gallery and cafe in the centre : it was always worth a visit if you like art. http://timespan.org.uk/

Mmhh, I thought everything would most likely be closed because of the locals going to the games...but if it's open, it sure seems like an interesting place to visit. Thank you! pthardy Posted April 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2014 We have booked an excursion with Nigel at shoreexcursions.co.uk, however, I am now unable to get ahold of him. I have sent numerous emails and I also phoned but to no avail. Is anyone else dealing with him and, if so, have you been able to reach him. Thanks Alison

We never book excursions and I have no idea who Nigel is. Hope he's allright though. We booked a rental car through Ken's Garage. Very nice and fast email contact so far...no problems whatsoever. Good luck! Stef
