morganboys Posted April 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2014 We are currently booked in a quad balcony on the empress deck mid-ship 8C. With the current balcony sale we can switch to a balcony guarantee for $320 less. I’m skeptical about switching due to the possibility of getting a cabin way up front or on the upper deck above a noisy venue. Any thoughts? Would you switch for $320? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

luv2trvlnow Posted April 14, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2014 a couple people have tried to switch and were told it was for new bookings only Bill This must be something new or some of the people answering the phone are clueless. I think the reason they can't match to this is because it is for a guarantee cabin. In the past we have matched to More=Merrier, which also says for new bookings only. But they allow you to match if you are Early Saver. Under More=Merrier you choose your cabin. The end result would be the same (no matching) for the balcony sale, but the real reason would not be that it is for new bookings only, but because it is for a guarantee not for their 8c cabin. KPfromCT Posted April 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2014 If they DID let you switch, also keep in mind, you could end up with an obstructed balcony:eek::eek: Good Luck!!!

Thanks You can always book UP, booking down is another matter and I doubt that Carnival will allow this. Having said that, we recently upgraded to a balcony from an ocean view. In the end, it cost us an additional $279 but with a $200 OBC. so only $79 in the end. The other issue of course is the roll of the dice as you mention. You just don't never know what you are going to get with a guaranteed booking. BUT, we have done this on a number of cruises and had really good luck, even upgrades. I would call Carnival and see what they will offer. They may "negotiate" with you on this. If you don't get the answer you are looking for the first time, call back and hope you get a better rep. I have done that too with great success including what I just mentioned above!
morganboys Posted April 14, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted April 14, 2014 well I rolled the dice and decided to do it. Ended up getting a nonrefundable on board credit of $337.48. Since I haven't prepaid my tips yet this should work out fine. I'm going with the thought that I'm going to have an obstructed view near the very front of the ship on the upper deck, above one of the clubs so anything better than that will be good. lol. vwrestler171 Posted April 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2014 What is the early saver price guarantee good for if it doesn't apply? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Early Saver was able to get me $475.38 in OBC where my friend who booked the Past Guest rate is stuck with the higher rate. So it does apply. I am surprised they gave you the price drop. Not only let you downgrade but take a gty booking. Worked out in your favor though. :) It nice to see that CCL is still consistantly inconsistent. I guess that's why they say if you don't like the answer you get, hang up and call back. lol Bill

Good attitude. I would've done the exact same, for that amount of money. There are no obstructed balconies on the Freedom, so no worries there. And for that amount of savings, I would take a room over the casino or comedy club. I am surprised that they let you downgrade with Early Saver, but it worked out good for you.
