beentothere Posted April 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2014 We have had no access to the internet for nearly all this past week. While the satellite has been open and working...we can see the site celebrity.com, the paid for access has been nearly non-existent. It appears the issue may be the onboard computer, but explanations are less then minimal so its a concealed issue as to the real cause. But it sounds like it might be a crashed computer (software) or failed hardware. In any case so many of us are so frustrated and perhaps very angry over the lack of support on something that has become an integral part of sailing...... We need to be able to communicate with friends, family, and business! This is our fourth transatlantic on the same ship and my estimate of is that we have had less than 10% of internet access compared to the previous crossings. If others are as concerned and inconvenienced as us, we hope they will also make their thoughts known. This is the first we have had access in 3 days. And then that day was available for only a few hours. Thanks been to there
Antonintassie Posted April 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2014 That is concerning I like many need email access for work ( self employed) so I can imagine how frustrating it would be to have 72 hours of the air
floridatravelersforlife Posted April 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2014 Hope they get it fixed by the time the ship lands in Europe. We are on board in two weeks and a half. Luckily we are at a port just about every day. I guess this problem is a negative for TA's Amazing that less than a decade ago I sought refuge from the internet and phone calls on cruises. scifimonkey Posted April 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2014 I still do, the price of connection is a great help in stopping me from trying to monitor everything and actually have a holiday!!:)

This is our fourth trans. Has not been a problem till this trip. It seems they really have some serious issues. Before, connections were very good to terrific and available more than 80 percent of the time. This trip...10 percent Contact them and put some pressure. I am not sure they understand how important the inet can be to us
caro24 Posted April 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the info. I'll be watching for more info to help me decide what Internet package to buy next week. We also need to keep in touch and had hoped not to spend port time looking for wifi. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Rare uktog Posted April 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2014 The internet on Silhouette in March was very flakey which had big implications for our work, we both said at the time that we were glad we were not on a transatlantic as we were able to recover the situation in each portion the Caribbean. The staff onboard in the I shop also had limited knowledge, very much sales people with basic understanding only which if it is them that are troubleshooting the problem is not good news I believe they call a help desk in Miami when they have a problem - maybe they are still on hold ;)
BosoxI Posted April 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2014 On the current Eclipse TA I've had access every time I wanted the internet. We have left the Azores and are en route to S'hampton now. I expected to lose contact but never have, as far as I know.
spammie Posted April 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) We are "Elite" so we each get 90 minutes free internet. We have done a few 10-night cruises on Equinox and never used all of our free minutes. HOWEVER - we just did a 7-night on the Silhouette and the internet connection for most of the cruise was non-existent. We actually went through all of our "free" minutes and paid for some internet time just trying to connect. It was crazy! Edited April 29, 2014 by spammie
