NWLA Cruiser Posted April 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2014 We are a group of four 30-somethings who are interested in active excursions. I was thinking that in Skagway we might actually eschew an excursion and hike to Upper Dewey, which I heard is strenuous. I am also looking into Above and Beyond in Juneau... But we haven't settled on anything. Does anyone have any other ideas for folks who like very active excursions? I've gotta work off those cruise ship calories somehow! Oh...and we are traveling soon. We are on the Millennium 6/20-17/14. Stopping in Ketchikan, Icy Strait, Juneau and Skagway. Thanks!

Everything I read says it is super pricey (which it is!) but totally worth it. Check it out! http://www.northstartrekking.com/level_3.php
Budget Queen Posted April 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2014 You have listed two good tours. You may also want to consider some kayaking, which is superb in Alaska. There are hiking trails all over Alaska to also consider. IF you have a lot of time in Juneau, hiking UP Mt Roberts is a work out (I've gone down :) ) Also I can recommend the East Loop and Nugget Creek trails at Mendenhall. Above and Beyond is well recommended, and would take up your Juneau time. Ketchikan Deer Mt trail is easy access right downtown. Ward Lake/Preserverance Trail easy to get to by bus. In Skagway- I also recommend biking Dyea Road, 11 miles one way to end. But bonus is the endless scenery you pass.

azevedan Posted April 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2014 We had an excursion out of Skagway that was supposed to be a hike but because of being early in the season was a snowshoe hike. It was one of the highlights of our trip!

NWLA Cruiser Posted May 5, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted May 5, 2014 Thanks! We went with Above and Beyond and are going to do the hike in Skagway. Hopefully we can find a place to stop and get some celebratory wine or champagne to carry with us for my SIL birthday!!
