Curacao Question

I put this under the Carnival thread so hopefully I can get my question answered! ;) I have looked at Carnival's website and think hubby and I'd like to do the Coastal/Country tour my problem is we don't dock until 2 pm...this excursion would run from that time until close to 7 pm. Since we've never been before I want to see the port area/bridges/shoppes but someone said they close up at 6 pm! Is that true? What info can you give me? I'd love to do the tour then come back and shop...thanks in advance for the help guys!

We had the same predicament.

We are going on the Breeze, and also arrive at 2.

We ended up booking a 2 hour island tour with Irie Tours. This also includes a stop at the factory where they make Blue Curacao and give free samples:eek::eek:

 

We figured this would give us at least an hour or two to shop.

 

Then we plan to go back on the ship, freshen up, and enjoy some libations across from the ship.

 

I am really looking forward to seeing the ship all lit up at night:D

Hi there, did you post this under the ports of call - curacao board? There is a poster who cruises a lot and lives in Curacao- she is a wealth of information- her screen name is ISA65.

Was there last summer/fall, and the stores do close early. It seemed as if just when we were getting started, everything was closing down. We decided to hit the store/mall around the port, then cross the bridge and do some more shopping over there, before hitting the casino where we won most of our shopping money back. Has some of the best payouts on roulette and slots I have ever played.

The nicer stores do tend to close earlier.

Still, Curacao is pretty at night and the bars and restaurants are open. :)

On days that cruise ships are in port, the shops in Riffort Village stay open until 8 p.m. However, all other regular shops in the downtown area close at 6 pm.

 

So, if there are specific items you're looking for (only to be found in Curacao), you might want to do your shopping first and then go on an excursion.

You will find taxis that will take you to the same spots as the ship's tour and for much less $$$.
