Budapest Parliament Tour

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to set up a tour of Parliament and found a company called ViaTours that operates in Budapest and many other places in Europe. Has anyone used them, will they pick you up and return you to the boat (they say they have pick up at hotels but didn't know about river boat).....and are they reliable?

Are you talking about Viator? I have not used them but my local AAA does book tours with them. They have an 888 number you can call for more info. I do believe that they arrange the tours with local companies

I am trying to buy entrance tickets to the Parliament building for a tour inside for September. I posted the question on trip advisor and someone told me the site was not working well at the this time and you could not buy pre-tickets for a date after June. Will try again in a few weeks.

The parliament building offers tours during the day and a few times they are offered in English. You may not need to hire a tour guide for that unless he/she will offer additional sites that day.

Yes it is Viator and I called their 888 number and spoke to a lovely gentlemen in Las Vegas! I just wanted to be sure they're reliable, but knowing that AAA uses them makes me feel a lot better. Thank you!

I just booked one for 3 p.m. in English. Actual Parliament web site was no help to me, except for basic information. I'm not sure they allow anyone to walk up and tour unescorted. All the info I have found refers to "guided tours" at specific times. Apparently they have added an English tour from 3 per day to 4, but I'm going in June and you're going in Sept. so I would want confirmation of that since web site listed 2 p.m. as last English tour of the day.

We booked our tour tickets on line before our River Cruise.

No need for a tour company.

We walked from the boat to Parliament.

That's what we plan on doing. How was the tour?

That was my original plan as well, but I was having trouble getting the concierge to return my e-mails and decided to do it on my own rather than risk not being able to do it at all. Today I got a t.c. from the concierge who set everything up for us to tour Parliament at 3 p.m. (an added time slot) so I'm very happy...No one is certain how close the boat will be docked to the Parliament since spots aren't pre-assigned and I have trouble walking distances. If we are in one of the slots near the building, we'll walk, and if not, TM will arrange a taxi for us. Web page for Parliament was not able to process purchase on line due to problems on their end.

Hydrokitty,

Did your concierge from your hotel book the tickets?

I am thinking if I can't get the website to work perhaps our tour guide (who will not be accompanying us into the Parliament building,) maybe be able to get them for us. We are 6 people so want to get our times together. We plan to do the tour after our city tour with the guide.

Hi Dee, I am using the Vantage concierge to get my tickets but she is having a terrible time booking them through the Parliament web site, which keeps "timing out" each time (we're up to 4 tries now) to book. Apparently an additional time has been added for English tour...3 p.m. which works for us because I want to do the morning city tour so I can shop at the Fisherman's Bastion, return to the ship for lunch and still have plenty of time to do the tour before we sail. Have you booked yours? If so, please let me know how you booked since I'm thinking of going back to Viator if concierge doesn't have them by tomorrow. We're not staying in a hotel in Budapest this time but will be on the boat.

For those having trouble purchasing tickets on the Jegymester.hu website, try the OTB payment option rather than the CIB. I was not able to complete the transaction with CIB, (kept timing out), but I had no problem using OTB.

Interesting...vantage concierge said jegymester kept timing out on her too. It took her three days but she did it and I was able to translate, download and print our tickets!!

I don't even see any availability for our dates in July .... hmmmm!

It's not the most user friendly site I've ever used. I found it by googling Budapest Parliament tour and chose jegermester (?) the site did have a place to click on all the tours on a given date and in parentheses it said how many tickets were available for that date and time. It also says they are subject to spontaneous closings when Parliament is in session. Maybe they're in session in July. I would say keep trying.

I am able to bring up tickets through the end of June, but not July. Maybe just not available on the site yet?

That could be it Sippican because when I first wanted to book I called concierge in March and she told me to get back to her in May for June. So it could very well be that tickets for July will go up any day now. Keep trying..:)

Yes, you are correct. The dates for July show up, you can click and highlight a specific date, but then no options for tour times display.

Keep checking Sippican....it may be too early for the times to be set. I know when I looked there were 2 english tours a day one in the morning and one at 1 p.m. but when concierge booked we got a 3 pm tour in english that still had 50 spaces available. If you continue to have problems, I would go to viatour...I had called then when Vantage was having such trouble getting them and they seemed very easy to deal with and told me how many spaces were on each tour as well as dates available.

Last July as part of our touring, I hired a guide, Emily, in Budapest. I arranged a 4 hour tour with her so she could show us sites over and above the standard city tour. She purchased the Parliament tickets for us ahead of time and we went in at 3:00 pm for the tour in English. I remember the group as being maybe 12 people. Later, when we were telling fellow passengers about our tour, there wasn't anyone else that went inside for a tour. My husband, who has an extensive background in commercial construction, said it is the most beautiful building he has ever seen. Interestingly, the Parliament building was the winner of a design contest, but officials decided to build the design that was the runner up and it sits across the plaza from the well known Parliament building.

Do not miss this opportunity. Emily can be reached at info@tourguidehungary.com. She has a car which makes it so convenient to get to the Parliament building. If you decide to contact her, she will send you info on the other sites that she can take you to in Budapest or even outside Budapest. She picked us up at our hotel and we paid her at the time of the tour.

Hiring a guide for Budapest and then in Prague was the best decision I made.

Emily got the Parliament Tickets for us for 12 euro each. This is a small fraction of what I see that the well known travel tour site charges.
