I have read that Eclipse is going into dry dock beg April 2015, could the Gastropub possibly be fitted then, ready in time for Eclipse's summer 2015 deployment from Southampton & the UK market?

Only Miami:rolleyes: knows for sure, and that could be in doubt untill the last nail is set.:D

Ok, it will all depend on how well the concept is accepted, and if it recieves high marks on the exit surveys, would be what I would guess. Which is all I can do, is guess.

At second glance, I think they went a little overboard with the truffle. It is in a large portion of their dishes. I like truffle, but truffle oil must be used sparingly and actual truffles that I have had in the past in Normandie were flavorless. Here is to hoping they have upped the quality of truffles and know how to use them.

I would suggest a cured meat and cheese platter. This menu needs that. And a fish and chip would be welcomed too.

Can't wait to try it. Any chance this will be on Reflection in January?

We had the mushroom flatbread, burger and grilled cheese. All very good.

It was open at noon on embarkation day.

I'm not a foodie so I still enjoy a good burger. In your opinion was the burger worth $7 more than he burger available from the Mast Grill?

If "yes", what made it special?

Enjoy your cruise and looking forward to a review.

I second the cheese platter idea! There is a meat platter already on the menu - first item. :) Cheese to go with would be great.

And I agree with you about truffle oil. Google Anthony Bourdain truffle oil for a good laugh. He hates the stuff and goes off about it frequently. LOL.

It just strikes me funny that cruise ships used to be known for the wonderful food you were offered, now to get the really wonderful you have to pay extra for it. Odd.

They still offer wonderful in the MDR and Blu. And I might be wrong, but I think cruise ships used to be known for long lines at bad buffets.

I know! Listen, I don't want to complain too much bc this is a step up from gloppy mexican crepes in Bistro on 5, but truffle fries are past their prime. If they want to go classic/old school give us some fries with a side of cheese and gravy!

Another good idea would be mussels mariniere with some crusty bread. Mussels, fries, bread, heaven!!!

I think that is kind of the point, at least for me.

Why am I going to forego what I consider to be a decent, if not often wonderful, meal in the MDR to pay for pub grub...and, to pay more than I would pay here for a similar meal...without having to pay $2000 to $10000 to get in the door.

I would not spend money, (I say now but I might change my mind in Oct) but would love to put my prem bev pkg to good use there. You don't have to buy the food. We usually don't eat after noon as we have early seating.

To be honest these days I'm up to there with food after a few days eating in the MDR and now really enjoy a break every so often in a less frenetic and relaxed atmosphere. It's good to have another choice of environment and for me it doesn't need to be a full sit down meal to be enjoyed. Been there, done that. After a couple of weeks on a cruise the one thing I always hanker for when I'm home is a cheese and pickle sandwich and a cup of tea. Says it all really!

I feel the same. I can barely tolerate sitting for 2 hours for a meal occasionally at home, doing it 7 or 14 nights in a row sucks! Sometimes I like the solitude of the buffet, or an alternate venue, or the less stuffy feeling of the meal than the MDR presentations, or a good, greasy pizza for dinner.

I mean let's be serious, the MDR is really nothing more than a fancy banquet style meal, the food is good, but it is banquet dining.

We'd go nuts if we had to eat in the MDR every night. Can't wait to try the Gastropub.

I am having a hard time with the prices with this gastro pub.

I can go to my local Irish pub which we do on a weekly basis religiously and get a pint of Newcastle ( 1st beer on the list ) and pay $6.00CDN which they have on tap.

They have a great menu at about 2/3rds the price of what X is offering. I can watch local sports and events with neighbours and yes the servers know our names.

What is the draw here?

Its good for some, probably not so good for others as yourself.

I can get Pabst blue ribbon beer at my local bar for $1, nightclubs in Miami Beach charge $6.

Bud Light at Courtyard by Marriott is $4, Marriott Hotels is $4.50, JW Marriott Hotel, $5, Ritz Carlton, $6. Same company, same beer, same delivery guy from the same supplier yet 4 different prices. Heck ordering a beer by room service may be even more than if you bought it at the same hotel's bar.

Ambiance and variety is what makes Gastro Pub something people like.

Cruises provide variety and options, some will use it, others will stick with the basics.

Isn't this the first Celebrity dining venue to be charging by the item instead of by the visit? The Bistro, Lawn Club, and specialty dining rooms are charged by the visit! An interesting precedent to set.....

Wow, what a good observation, I hand't even thought of that...Gotta keep the cabin fares down some how, so they need make it up in the specialty venues. Will be interesting to see how this creeps into other venues.

Room service actually started it with the "enhanced" a-a-carte offerings for a fee now that I think of it.....

I'm in the middle on the concept. We pay for the cruise. We tire of the MDR and Buffet. We pay extra for variety. Vacation is about choices.

Lately, I'm not sure why I count Celebrity among vacation choices.

Have they numbed me down because the ships are beautiful, the casino is non smoking, and the service is good? I like choices but find there isn't much left to draw us to Celebrity. Now, the Gastropub may get me back.

Except for floating to ports, I have all else offered right at home.

It seems a mistake to offer Gastropub at high prices. Specialty restaurants are charging more. If Gastropub isn't worth the cost, it's a big turn off.
