Belfastlad Posted July 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Hi folks I am wanting to book a few excursions on our upcoming cruise and there is currently a waiting list. Do P&O usually accommodate these lists when they have enough guests to fill coaches etc or shall we just 'hoof it' on our own. Many thanks
jeanlyon Posted July 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) We always DIY wherever we can. Depends where you are going on the cruise? Most ports are fairly easy to DIY. Where are you going? Edited July 3, 2014 by jeanlyon

We are wanting to get from Livorno to Florence and know it can be a bit of a nightmare with last minute strikes etc with railways. It's just the thought of missing our connections and not making it back to the ship in time. Would spoil our day constantly worrying.

If it is a popular trip, the company will put on extra coaches if they can. Sometimes they are short of the guide not the coach. ParCan Posted July 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2014 If it's wait listed, book it anyway. (well add yourself to the wait list) Worst case is you don't get on the trip ! There is no obligation to Buy the trip if you go on the wait list and it does become available. They also waitlist tours to get an idea of interest and will put the tour on if there is enough. They just don't want to be in the situation where a trip fails to pay......
2irisheyes Posted July 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2014 In case there is a chance you may DIY do your research before you go eg train and bus times, location of train and bus stations and distances. Train strikes in Italy can be a problem but they usually give advance details - dates and which trains will be affected. Trenitalia is their train company. We have done many shore trips in Italy using their trains and so far have been lucky. We always allow extra time for return journey to ship in case of delays. A little Italian helps - the language I mean. Good luck.
jeanlyon Posted July 4, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2014 Interestingly that's one port on our next cruise and we can't decide whether to DIY or not. We've been to Florence, but might try Pisa.
