028snowball Posted July 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Just paid off my holiday and went to book excursions for our trip to realise there is no Egypt port I contacted thomsons who told me I should have received a letter or email in October last year and that I have £50 cabin credit to spend. Quite annoyed that no one from thomson informed me of this did everyone else receive letters? Also can I use onboard credit for excursions? As I'm all inclusive with drinks package so not sure what else I'd use it for?

Sorry to hear your holiday isn't what you were expecting although it's understandable that they have dropped ports where there are security issues. Probably the Foreign Office has advised against non essential travel. However it's really not on that you weren't informed and I can imagine you would feel annoyed about that. Thomson communication - or lack of it. Again! On the plus side though you will be able to use your obc to offset the cost of an an excursion but take care it will have to be booked on board!! Any excursions you book prior to travel will have to be paid for in full at the time of booking and I'm pretty sure you can't get them to use your on board credit in that circumstance. It is as it says - on board so can only be used for services purchased on board. Perhaps Spa treatments or shop sales are valid expenses but do check that out. Perhaps someone will have had experience of using obc for such purchases. Edited July 3, 2014 by kruzseeka
028snowball Posted July 3, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Great info I'm happy to book one of my excursions onboard if this is the case really not happy at the lack of communication from thomson and find there reaponses very vague and don't seem to really care too much don't get me wrong I accept the situation and I'm happy with the new ports erc but would be nice to know beforehand. Anyone know can you buy perfume onboard the ship could possibly use credit for this also

Anyone know can you buy perfume onboard the ship could possibly use credit for this also This is off the thomson website: Onboard Credit Offer Where applicable a monetary amount will be credited to your onboard account at the start of your cruise. This credit can be redeemed against all non-cash purchases on the ship (cash transactions such as casino gambling and bingo are excluded). This credit is only available to adult passengers. It is not transferable and cannot be refunded. So it looks as though you can use it against anything you can buy on board on your ship's card (which includes the shops) - barring things which require a cash transaction as above and that would include buying currency on board I imagine. But I would still just check it out when you arrive as you don't want to get close to the end of your cruise and find there are no excursions you want to go on and can't find anything else (given you have AI) that you want to spend it on. Enjoy spending it! ;)
028snowball Posted July 3, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Thanks again might drop them an email to be sure I can use it against excursion for some reason I thought you couldn't? Still waiting to hear back as to why I haven't been informed officially from them though
GM0NJl Posted July 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2014 I had £200 on board credit in April this year. It is added to your on board as credit, so any thing you purchase on board, drink, items from shops, trips, photographs are included in the things you can use it for. Not sure about the spa as I never use this service.
