Missdoug Posted July 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2014 We are going on cruise and land trip to Alaska. I understand there will be a land host to navigate us from place to place. Do we tip this person? How much? My HAL consultant said he'd never been asked that before and didn't know. Thanks. Patk
summer slope Posted July 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2014 We gave the host and the bus driver a tip when we reached the ship on the last day. I don't remember how much, but it seemed everyone on the bus gave them something.
Howasaur Posted July 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) We did the Alaskan 19 day land and Cruise tour. In information provided yes you do tip the tour guide and Bus drive and they are worth every cent. The quide made herself available 24 hours a day and answered all questions VERY helpful I cannot thank Holland America enought on the staff provided for the trip For the overland portion we tipped the guide at the last stop where she saw us off to the ship. shrimpboat123 Posted July 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2014 Here is a link to the 2014 Alaska Land & Sea Journey Tips: http://www.hollandamerica.com/assets/cruise-destinations/Tour_Tips.pdf It has suggested tipping amounts for the various people who make your trip so enjoyable. We followed these guidelines when we did our 19 day CruieseTour last year.

Don't believe they had this when we did our Alaska trip, but we were on a guided tour with a wholesaler & they provided the host/tour guide...Our Driver did all the guiding on our trip & he was the best..We actually tipped him more than the suggested amount as he was terrific.. If he is still with HAL you would be in good hands with him..
Rare rafinmd Posted July 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2014 Since many land tours now include a flight segment, are there 2 different bus drivers who each need to be tipped at the end of their services? Roy
Shmoo here Posted July 4, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2014 Since many land tours now include a flight segment, are there 2 different bus drivers who each need to be tipped at the end of their services? Roy We did the cruise tour before the flights were added, but we did have 2 different drivers during the course of our trip (they switched when we were in Dawson City). We tipped both drivers.
