RJ2002 Posted July 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2014 We are considering an Asia cruise on Princess, and would like to also spend some time on a land tour. We are of course looking at factors such as flight availability, itinerary building, etc. All else being equal, would you do land tour before, or after, a cruise? We always do the land portion before the cruise. Just want that cruise to look forward to and to be able to relax. ;)
cruzfitter Posted July 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2014 We chose to do the land portion first. Figuring if anything went wrong with flights or luggage transfers there would be time to adjust. As it turned out we ended up flying in a day late due to weather problems in the mid-west. It worked out for us since we planned to have an extra day in Fairbanks. But we did find out that if there is a problem with your luggage that Princess will do everything to get your luggage to you.

We are of course looking at factors such as flight availability, itinerary building, etc. All else being equal, would you do land tour before, or after, a cruise? We are booked on the Oct 7 Sapphire sailing with a land tour pre-cruise. May I just throw out a word of caution for you to think about? We have discovered that when booked on a combination land + sea cruisetour through Princess, if there is a reduction in price for the cruise portion, you are not eligible to receive that reduction. It has been beyond frustrating to watch very large price reductions occur for our cruise and we can not benefit from any of them. We kept our booking only because we really wanted to do the Yangtze River portion and felt it was too complicated to try to find a private tour operator. Others on our Roll Call have canceled their (shorter, X'ian/Beijing only) land tours and found a private operator. For us, we have made peace with our booking but we will never, ever book a landcruise tour again as a package deal. Just something for you to consider....
