Breakaway not all that it's claimed to be....

I was expecting this sentence to finish with, "because she is 4 years old and can't make the decision for herself."

Does she have to ask your permission to leave the house? Do you tell her what to wear? Do you walk her around on a leash? Like another poster said, those words make me cringe - even more now that you replied again and said it again, failing to even recognize what is so disturbing to people.

So true. He just doesn't get it. Sad and frightening - all at the same time.

To all above....

The reason I would not allow my wife in the pool was the same reason all other guests sat around the pool without thinking of going in, simple safety.

The young group was being served by two adults trays of Liquor, some of the younger crowd not of age, not at pool side, security picked up on this, this is why there was at least six members at pool side. I just didn't think they took charge for safety sake.

I guess you had to be there...

As far as the reply in reference to carpet in the casino...Sound was not my concern. SMOKE IS...

Second City ....."No alcohol served at the bar, and no servers on the floor.

As far as bar service...I never felt welcomed like I did on every other ship I was on.

I didn't appreciate being skipped over, neither did some other patrons.

I thought this was a cruise review forum...not a bash every word or phase site.

We will cruise NCL, but not the big ships.

Service goes down and so does the quality of the food.

Never had any complaints on the Jewel, Gem ships. Outstanding food and fantastic service on every level.

Breakaway..... :(

Thank you for giving your review of what you and your family experienced. Whether anyone agrees with it or not is subjective but you did take the time to contribute.

We have over 20 cruises and prefer to smaller NCL ships because I am overwhelmed with the Mega ships. I get lost in the closet, LOL. We have the Escape booked for Oct 2015 and so I am reading any review of this class of ship.

Thanks for chiming in your opinion.

Rick, please do not assume that all posters/visitors to this site are regulars. While Quincella's post might be repetitive to you, it is new to me and it is new to many others who stop by to read the threads, only now and again. Besides, he is free to post his opinion, unchanging though it may be, and you are free to pass over it and not read it, if it offends you either in content or frequency of posting.

You need to go back and read the thread closer. "Rick" wasn't referring to anything "Quincella" said.

Maybe his wife is elderly or disabled or frail or ill or needs help in other ways

Why does everyone think that he " allows " her to use they pool.

If my spouse had lets say a bad back but I knew water exercise was helpful to them but I knew using the pool appeared dangerous or crowded or whatever I would without a doubt say " are you crazy, with your back in that crowded pool you will hurt yourself! You can't go in"

Oh and maybe if I came on cc I might post something like " I couldn't allow him/ her to use the pool"

Sheesh

If my dh saw a dangerous situation, and didn't want me there, he would " not allow me to go" of course I would put my hand on my hip, roll my eyes at him and say"excuse me"..... Then he would change it to "I rather you don't... It looks dangerous and i don't want you to get hurt, but if you want to...." it's not that I need his "permission".. I am my own woman. We are happily married 34 1/2 years, and I am thrilled to have a husband that worries about my well being, and tries to protect me. One of the things that makes him a great father too!

Safe sailing

I have to agree with the OP. I got off the Breakaway yesterday and while the cruise as a whole was good, it was peppered with small but numerous annoyances. My husband blames it on poor management and training. Service was poor. Good service was the exception and when we finally found a good server on Day 4, we did everything we could to be seated with her for the rest of the cruise. I have to agree that The Manhattan Room is WAY better than Savor and Taste. I had read a review that panned Taste, and I dismissed it thinking that it couldn't be that bad. I was so Wrong. I should have listened. Stay away from Taste! (The short version is that in my opinion that two tables of 5 is not an acceptable substitute for a reservation for 10.) I fell into the trap of thinking that I wanted to try all the restaurants. Don't do it! There isn't anything special about Savor or Taste. Stick with the Manhattan Room.

Contrast that with The Manhattan Room where even though we didn't have a reservation at all (we tried, but couldn't get one), they moved tables together to make a table of 10 for us, in the section where our favored server was working. THAT is service. Unfortunately, it was a rarity; but I think it only fair that I point out that good service can happen if you hit upon the few who are well-trained and willing to put out effort.

I also think that we were victims of a very full ship. The woman checking us in at the port (who was super nice) told us there were 4600 passengers, 1300 of which were kids. Yikes! Our stateroom attendant said it was 4700 and the next cruise (this week's) was to be 4800. I don't know who to believe, but the ship was very full (and loud).

Ah, the Breakaway, where my mantra was constantly stating "That's weird."

I agree that a good part of you problem was that it was a full ship. I find I am disappointed in every, ship and every cruise line when its packed!!!

I wouldn't say that New Yorkers have higher standards as much as they tend to be more "me, me, me," impatient, and pretty rude. There's a difference between "complaining about problems" and being rude and impatient. And I say that as a big fan of NYC.

When I was on the Breakaway last summer, I saw no issues with the staff. Many of the guests, on the other hand, left quite a bit to be desired. I remember one situation where I was at one of the margarita tastings. The bartender and her assistant was obviously busy and the bar was packed with people waiting on their margaritas. This guy and his wife/girlfriend comes up and stands at the bar next to where I'm sitting. Again, there's an obvious event going on, and the staff are all busy shaking/pouring. After about five seconds, the guy says loudly, "Can I get some service over here?!" and his companion huffs, "This is RIDICULOUS!"

Whats ridiculous is that a rude man was impatient at a bar and you assume he was a New Yorker and you state all New Yorkers are me, me, me, impatient and rude. You could not be more wrong!!!! What you wrote is defiantly rude, very rude…….

Im curious, do you usually travel when school is out and the ships are so full? Perhaps that would make a big difference. We also sail NCL and love the Jewel class ships but we also really love the Breakaway. I have sailed her twice and have another cruise coming up in November on the BA. I ask when you sail because so far our BA cruises have been awesome and we have not experienced anything like you did.. BTY, we never cruise in the summer, winter breaks, spring breaks or Christmas week, too many people, I believe compromises the service.. Could this be what happened?

Thank you. I stand corrected. Quincella was referring to "loves my butler", aka "broken record". My comment then is directed to Quincella's and Rick. " loves my butler" is expressing an opinion and today was the first time I read it. Not everyone reads CC every day. It may br repetitious to you, but it is new to me.
