and I do agree with the smoker who said that due to airline concerns they should have given more than 3 months notice-when i have flown to a cruise i have gotten my flights at times more than 6 months in advance

Cigarette smoke is not an allergen , I dont care how you spin it. Even the link you posted does not claim it to be an allergen.. Just sayin . lets be clear ;)

Does it really matter if it's an allergy or an irritant if the effect on someone with a sensitivity is the same? When I spend a day at the casino (which happens more often than it should) I have a lot of congestion the next day along with a nasty cough. I quit smoking 8 years ago but have the same reaction now to the smoke in the casino as I did when I was smoking. It's not bad enough to make me stop going though.

Sooner or later not only will NCL ban balcony smoking, but all cruise lines will be 100% smoke free. I'm an not saying it is even in the planning stages at this point, just that eventually it will come to pass. Get ready for it, cause it will be here sooner or later.

 

I dont think this will ever happen, they would lose a lot of cruisers and that means $$$ . I do think they will tighten up on where you are allowed to smoke, on our Sun cruise in Feb smokers were only allowed to smoke in a samll corner on the pool deck.

Just some random thoughts. Wouldn't it be better to have smokers on their outside balcony smoking where the wind moves it along quickly? The alternative is inside in the casino (I smoke and I won't even smoke in there it's so heavy) or in clustered areas on the pool deck where there are crowds of non smokers? A large group smoking in designated outside areas, in my opinion are much more annoying due to heavy smoke output from many smokers clustered together.

Privately out on their own balcony it's a single cigarette smoked quickly and gone with the wind. Be careful what you wish for, clustered smokers in designated outside areas will be much worse for those with smoke sensitiveness. Just sayin.

 

I agree with you. I said something similar a couple of pages back. I'd much rather have smokers on their balcony where the wind pulls the smoke away than concentrated into a couple of small areas.

The smoking vs non-smoking debate must be tough for cruise lines. I would hope the health and safety of the passengers is what guides the decision, but I know better than that. I'm super sensitive to smoke, and would think twice about sticking with NCL if it becomes the smokers cruise line of choice.

I don't care if you smoke or you don't smoke; and I do believe that most smokers are courteous.

 

But this whole discussion makes me sad. Sad that some here are attacking others. Also sad that people are choosing their vacations based on the issue of smoking/not smoking. :(

I am a smoker. I have cruised Carnival almost exclusively and now will be switching to NCL in order to retain those simple comforts that I enjoy about cruising - like stepping out on my balcony first thing in the morning in my PJ's with a cup of coffee and a smoke.

 

I am not a nasty smoker or a chain smoker. If you are next to me and my smoke bothers you I will try to accommodate you and not smoke while you are outside, or say "hey neighbor, do mind if I light up right now?" I think you will find most smokers are very aware of how it bothers others and tend to accommodate folks who are nice about it and don't lead off with "why don't you just quit that nasty disgusting habit" or "you stink!"

 

I am looking forward to being able to continue cruising and since NCL is essentially the only game in town now where I can do so comfortably, I genuinely hope they don't jump on the discriminatory band wagon. Particularly since NCL stock is rising while CCL and RCL are falling ;)

If I want to quit, I will. I do not need a stranger trying to push me to do so any more than a seriously overweight person would appreciate you providing a link to weight watchers for them.

I smoked for 10 years, and quit about six years ago. I am, by definition, a smoker -- or at least was one at one point. I did not "hate" people telling me that I was killing myself. You may hate it, but don't speak for everyone.

 

I'd bet you'd appreciate a stranger pushing you out of the way of an oncoming bus, right?

 

My personal experience says your kids will appreciate your not dying of lung caner. Plus, if we're going to have 6 active threads about smoking, we may as well get to the heart of the matter, no?

While I applaud you for making the life choice that works for you, it is, indeed, none of my business. And it is not up to me to make your life choices for you. All I ask is the same in return. I don't ask you to applaud the fact that I smoke. I just ask you to accept that it is my business and not yours.

 

And as an ex-smoker one would think you would remember what is it like to be "preached to".

A little consideration goes a long way (in both directions). To each his own. Non-smoker here and I hardilly welcome RCCL and CCL smokers to NCL. Don't blow smoke in my face and I won't chew with my mouth open in the restaurants...
