grsnovi Posted July 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2014 My wife is always looking at plastic with benefits and has a HAL Credit Card. We paid for the upcoming cruise with that card and should have some accumulation of useable "points". How hard are they to redeem for online shore excursion bookings? TIA! jtl513 Posted July 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) How hard are they to redeem for online shore excursion bookings? It is a very easy process to redeem them, but the two times that have requested these what simply happened was a $100 credit on my next billing statement, before we ever went on the cruise. You can go to the barclaycardus.com site and set up a username and password for access to see how many points you have. Minimum redemption for an "excursion credit" is 10,000 points. Click on View Rewards, then Redeem Your Rewards, then Onboard Credits. Edited July 9, 2014 by jtl513
PathfinderEss Posted July 9, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2014 Very easy, I just called Barckay's told them the amount I want to redeem and that amount was posted on my next statement. It was pretty slick, I paid for a 12 day cruise with my accumalted points.:D:D:D
Cruising-along Posted July 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2014 It's extremely easy. You can either call or redeem points online. We got $2000 deducted from our next cruise (they actually credit your credit card account) plus we got 4 $50 drink cards. Those will be in our cabin upon boarding. Like John said, for shore excursions they will simply credit your account $100 per shore excursion.

When a credit was not applied to my account recently, I emailed and they said it will be an OBC. Edited October 28, 2014 by jtl513

Thanks for the update. Do you happen to know how it will work when you apply the points toward payment of a cruise? In the past I have made my final payment, then redeemed the points. The credit was applied on the same bill as the charge. Worked like a charm. I'm hoping it will still work that way, as the $500 in on-board credit would be excessive. I called them, gave them the booking number. They operator told me that it might be 2 or 3 billing cycles to show up on my account but a $500 credit was on my next statement. Very easy. The credit to my card showed up within 48 hours. :)
kakalina Posted October 28, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 28, 2014 When I call to redeem our points they ask me how I wish to redeem them. We usually go for casino credit. We have learned that no matter how you request the credits they end up as OBC on your onboard statement. I've never thought to ask it be credited directly to the card statement as that possibility was not mentioned when I got the card.
CaliforniaAC Posted October 28, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 28, 2014 Off topic sort of... If you also plan on using this card when you are on your cruise, you will need to call them and tell them if your departure port is out of state, and a list of the countries that you may be using your card in while you are gone. If you don't, they may deny the charge. Also, with your HAL Visa Signature Card, there are no foreign transaction fees. :D Just got off the phone with them, giving them 12 countries, Ft. Lauderdale, and the USVI. No hassle to me, worth the added security. AC

Thanks for the reassurance that I'll still be able to claim my reward as a credit to my card. I love using the reward to pay a portion of that final payment. Much less painful that way. ;)
