Hi All

Do not like the idea of booking restaurants tours etc

Next it will be for a small fee you can book a seat in the theatre

Or the sanctuary

But if happens you would need to know what nights were formal etc

If its not broken do not fix it

I DO NOT like the idea of prepaying shore excursions at all. I know other cruise companies do this, but it makes it difficult if you are like me and change my mind several times before the cruise. Plus if the excursion is cancelled( I've seen this happen also) by Princess then you have another issue.

I also want to know where you heard about this?

If you ever wanted to prepay for shore excursions, specialty restaurants etc. Online.... it shouldn't be long. There are more changes as to how we search online for our cruises. It's going to be great, Princess has really been listening.
OP's post said prepay, not pre-reserve. Why do I want to prepay and have Princess have my money longer? I certainly don't want to be forced to prepay for tours like other cruise lines.

I also have an issue if in addition to prepaying as the post stated, you can pre-reserve. I don't like the idea of pre-reserving specialty restaurants. We don't know what our plans will be until we are on board ship.

Problem is if you "have" to prepay, you can't use your OBC and Princess gives lots of OBC.

I hope it's not headed in that direction. I count on all my OBCs to be used against shore excursions and tips. We don't drink, use the Casino use spa, use sanctuary or buy art, so other than the shops I'm not sure what expenses the OBCs would be used against for us.

Would love to pre pay executions some of them are very expensive. We are going on a

Very long cruise and would like to put some credit on to save having a big bill at the end of our cruise

Its already very easy to gift/send yourself OBC so you'll have OBC on your folio to cover expenses. Just go to http://www.princess.com/learn/onboard/gifts_services/index.jsp

Although you don't have to prepay doing so only makes you spend more on board especially if you have any on board credit to begin with. It sounds like this charge would be on top of on board credit. Princess is only selling more things prior to boarding.

I thing I'll wait & charge it on my account when on the ship.

I just hung up with Princess as I was booking a BVE for someone and for the first time ever they asked me if I wanted to pre-pay the charges for the speciality restaurants. I asked if this was new and was told yes.

You can pre-pay, you can not pre-reserve. You can not book until you are on board. The agent was pushing it and described the restaurants. I politely told her I had no desire to pre-pay the cover charges today when i don't sail until Nov.

As far as I know that is not new, people have been talking about it for at least a year. That they could pay but not make a res.

How ludicrous! Why on earth would you pre-pay for something that they won't let you reserve?

I don't understand the attraction. If I want to "pre-pay" I will just gift myself OBC. I don't see why anybody would want to give Princess their money in advance.

It's better to keep your own money rather than gifting Princess an interest-free loan by paying in advance.

Absolutely! Why anyone would want to is beyond me.

We consider NOT having to prepay for booked excursions a Princess perk! I hope they don't change it, but thanks to the OP for the head's up!

I feel the same way as everyone else. This is one of the niceties about Princess that you can prebook your excursions ahead of your cruise, but aren't charged until at some point while on board, and it's easy enough to cancel excursions up to that point. It would be nice to see some official announcement from Princess in writing what the actual change is.

And as many are pointing out, if you want to pay down your excursions and other costs, you can give yourself an OBC or do what my hubby did midway a couple of cruises ago -- he went to the passenger services desk and gave them a whole bunch of travelers cheques (leftover from a previous vacay) to pay down our folio.

How ludicrous! Why on earth would you pre-pay for something that they won't let you reserve?

Exactly. You're already paying a final payment of your fare a few months before your sailing. For onboard expenses, why not wait just before your cruise (like with the Internet package as you'll get bonus minutes doing so) or when you are getting your specialty dinner or drinks or spa treatments? You're not getting any incentive anyway. Plus, if you can't make the actual reservation for the dinner beforehand, what if you were booking for a special occasion and the day and time you want isn't available?

I am with you, I don't understand all that pre-pay fuss, one way or another it comes out of my wallet. I know how much I can afford to spend before I book my cruise,so there are no big surprises when I get the final bill.I use a credit card that has no outstanding charges on it and a decent credit line. Send one check to pay off the charges and get it over with...no fuss. no muss:D

On Celebrity, if you choose anytime dining you have to pre-pay gratuities when you pay for your cruise. Traditional diners can have their gratuities billed day by day. I know there are some people who like to have everything paid in advance, but I like to keep my money until I'm ready to spend it. This idea of pre-paying for things reminds me of Celebrity. They want you to pre-pay for things.

I have never understood the desire to prepay for items on a cruise, unless it is less expensive in advance such as the coffee card or if you get a bonus such as additional internet minutes. I know approximately what we will be spending on board and that amount is reserved in the appropriate account. I just transfer those funds when the credit card payment is due. Why let Princess have our money any sooner than necessary? I implied as much in an earlier post but my response is "What's the big deal?"
